Position Summary

TheDallas CollegeFacilitiesManagementDepartment supports the facilities related needs forthe Collegewhile providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of theCollege's physical assets.The Facilities Management Department is responsible forapproximately 5,500,000 sq.ft.of physical space and over 1400 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County.The position ofStructural Trades Technician supportsthat effort through the performance of work in carpentry, welding, painting, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in building construction processes and methods.

  • Knowledge and ability to perform minor concrete projects.

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local building codes and safety requirements.

  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing work priorities while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Knowledgeof policiesforsafestorage,usage,anddisposalofhazardousmaterials.

  • Must have good interpersonal skills and work well in a diverse environment.

  • Able to read and interpret and apply information in technical manuals.

  • Ability to read and interpretblueprints and electrical wiring diagrams.

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations as applicable.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when carrying out projects and/or tasks.

  • Ability to perform work under minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment.

  • Ability to utilize a computerized maintenance management system to document daily work orders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performa widevarietyofbuildingconstruction projectsandrepairs.

  • Complete work orderson timeandensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.

  • Ensure compliance with regards to healthandsafetyregulations, policies, andworkpractices.

  • Responsible for daily accounting of work through a computerized maintenance management system.

  • Perform various tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, minor electrical work,drywall repair,moving furniture, and minor door hardware installation, such as lock set or door closure installation.

  • Ordersupplies and keep inventory on par levels using a computer-based procurement system.

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with internal and external employees and vendors.

  • Provide leadership and guidance with other staff members completing projectsto ensure deadlinesaremet andprojectsarecompletedwithinbudgetallocations.

  • Responsible for proactive inspection of buildings noting repairs and scheduling maintenance.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending over,stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching,kneeling,or crawling. Pushing or pulling 10-50lbs., lifting 10-80lbs., carrying 10-50lbs., repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing, manual dexterity-fine manipulation or grasping.May require working in adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and eight (8) years of work-related experience.

  • Valid Texas driver's license.

  • Official transcripts will be required.

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
