Position Summary

The central focus of American Indian Student Services (AISS) is to provide opportunities that enhance American Indian/Indigenous student success, while also advancing a wide range of objectives aligned with The University of New Mexico's enrollment, retention, & graduation goals for all students.

AISS is seeking a strategic, innovative, organized, and culturally responsive professional to serve as Student Success Manager. The position will oversee the development & implementation of in-person support services centered on student needs for successfully navigating and exceling in a university environment. Advancing college transition initiatives, student mentorship & success programs, and leadership development efforts. Providing direction for comprehensive oversight of academic advisement & student support services for American Indian/Indigenous students attending the University of New Mexico-Main Campus are primary duties and responsibilities.

Under the direction of the AISS Director, the Student Success Manager will lead strategic planning and reporting for the department. Develop and administer unit assessment plans, help design efficient administrative processes, establish advanced marketing and communications systems. Manage the administration of department scholarship selection & awarding procedures. Foster collaborative campus-wide relationships and teambuilding practices. The successful candidate must possess a strong student services record. Have demonstrated experience coordinating and facilitating programs and student support initiatives for students transferring from UNM branch campus sites, community colleges, tribal colleges, other colleges or universities, and new admits. Have advanced oral and written skills; networking expertise; and demonstrated experience collaborating and interacting with diverse constituents and various tribal governments, higher education programs, and entities specific to American Indian/Indigenous constituents.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

- Strong understanding of, and demonstrated experience, serving a diverse student community including first-generation, rural, and historically underserved and minoritized identities.

- Demonstrated experience developing, coordinating, and implementing 1st-year college residential and transition programs, mentorship efforts, and student leadership and retention initiatives.

- Experience designing & planning student-centered programs, including but not limited to: curriculum development, staff training, facilities/logistics coordination, and hybrid (in-person & online) student engagement programming.

- Strong comprehensive national, regional, and state-wide targeted recruitment & outreach experience and ability to integrate student support service-related projects/programs in collaborative partnership initiatives with various campus units.

- Experience with implementing institutional, departmental, private, and tribal scholarship outreach, selection and awarding processes.

- Advanced proficiency coordinating the collection, maintenance, and analysis of program activity data; and developing, authoring, and presenting comprehensive statistical and narrative program reports and evaluations.

- Strong strategic planning experience and ability to develop models and analyses related to holistic student development philosophies and success models aligned with high-impact strategies.

- Ability to develop and administer assessment plans and evaluate short- and long-range goals, objectives, operating procedures, and performance goals.

- Demonstrated experience developing reports, spreadsheets, and databases: and maintaining program/project records and statistical information utilizing Excel, Access, Hyperion, MyReports, and Banner.

- Advanced expertise creating design sets and copy for print publications/digital & web-based communication/social media platforms utilizing Adobe Creative applications: Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Express, and Photoshop; and the integration of communication campaigns and strategies.

- Strong written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse entities & constituencies including, but not limited to: colleges and universities, higher education organizations, and tribal, local, state, and federal agencies.

- Working on a team and/or in a collaborative work-setting, multi-tasking and creative problem-solving and working in a high-traffic customer service environment.
