Aquatics Manager

Department: Parks

Full-time, Salary

Salary Range: $81,328.00 - $96,907.20/yr

Job Summary

Manages the Aquatic division including the overall quality and ongoing development of the lifeguard program, aquatic programming, policies, procedures, staff development, and operations that allow for continual improvement and safe aquatic offerings at indoor and outdoor pools, water parks, beaches. Preserves and enhances department assets. Ensures quality, diverse, and safe aquatic service and product delivery to maximize revenue opportunity.

Schedule: Occasional evenings, summer holidays and weekends will be required.

Job Responsibilities



  • Operations Management/Programming - Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and coordinates the operations, programs, and activities for the Aquatic division. Maintains, develops, and implements policies and procedures for the safe and efficient operation of aquatic facilities, and establishes priorities for the division.
  • Personnel Management - Oversees the hiring, training, supervision and development of qualified aquatic personnel including lifeguards, lifeguard supervisors, and other aquatic staff. Provides guidance and direction for hiring, job assignments, and retention. Conducts performance appraisals and presents development opportunities.
  • Manages Lifeguard Program and Independent State-Certified Agency - Ensures the program exceeds compliance of state requirements and industry standards through continued education and training in lifesaving and emergency medical response. Implements updates into the program as approved by the state. Maintains and updates programs to meet compliance.
  • License and Code Compliance - Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Oversees administration of lifeguard testing and certifications. Ensures building, grounds and pool maintenance and compliance of procedures to ensure public safety and sanitation. Ensures all records are maintained and reported.
  • Administration - Reviews contracts and agreements. Manages projects and establishes priorities. Prepares specialized plans, reports and audits. Tracks and reports performance metrics, and aquatic program management. Maintains all training records and documents.
  • Budget Management - Assists in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the division's annual budget. Develops internal division budgets for facilities to manage budgets for staffing, programming, and facility maintenance.
  • Special Assignments and Projects - Participates on special project teams. Drives community outreach, marketing and communication efforts.
  • Ability to safely and properly use: vehicles, hand tools, power tools, pool equipment, computers, and standard office equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Education, License/Certification and Experiences



  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin upon application required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required and must be maintained throughout incumbency
  • High School Diploma or equivalency required
  • Three (3) years or more of work experience in Lifeguarding, Aquatic Programming or Recreation Management required
  • Three (3) years or more of work experience in a Supervisory or Management role required
  • American Heart Association CPR with AED or approved equivalent required
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, Milwaukee County Lifeguard Supervisor or equivalent certification required
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire
  • Aquatic Facility Operator certification or approved certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams required
  • Strong leadership and management abilities required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required



Preferred Education, License/Certification and Experiences



  • Associate degree or higher in Parks and Recreation Management or closely related field preferred
  • Recreational programming experience preferred
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification preferred
  • Previous Facility Management experience preferred
