A Brief Overview 1. Leads teams that plans, forecasts and implements new network technologies of high complexity. 2. Participates in network architecture design and engineering. 3. Evaluates new products and develops technical standards. 4. Participates in enterprise-wide on-call rotation. 5. Performs troubleshooting procedures and designs resolution scripts. 6. Leads enterprise-wide assignments. 7. Works on projects/issues of high complexity that require in-depth knowledge across multiple technical areas and business segments. 8. Maintains and increases knowledge of CHOP DTS network systems. 9. Increases knowledge of industry trends, future technologies and client issues that may impact network strategies and direction. 10. Coaches and mentors Level I and Level II staff. 11. Serves as expert for management task forces and committees. 12. Participates and provides feed back to improve CHOP corporate and DTS processes including, but not limited to, work flow, project management, time accounts, and employee reviews.
What you will do
- A Network Engineer III is a senior contributor with similar responsibilities as the Network Engineer II, but with a greater degree of complexity. A Network Engineer III may be involved in some leadership activities. A Network Engineer III also:
- Is expected to maintain expertise in the latest networking technologies and develop standardized solutions and best practices for network design and configurations.
- Contributes to the analysis and design for current and emerging technologies for deployment across the enterprise, including but not limited to layer 2\3 LAN switching, routing technologies.
- Performs network architecture reviews and develops detailed engineering design and deployment plans.
- Provides documentation to support development, implementation and training along with presenting to technical and non- technical audiences.
- Provides high-level support and rapid resolution to complex network problems. Demonstrates ability to use network analysis tools and apply industry standard best practices approach to support issues.
- Provides mentoring for junior engineers and participate in rotating on call responsibilities.
- Participates in cross-functional meetings in support of projects and operational duties.
- Works with LAN\WAN hardware including patch panels, Fiber Optics, Cat5e and Cat 6 wiring, DTE and DCE devices.
- Works with the Service Desk using the supporting ticketing system to resolve customer incidents and tasks.
- Participates in rotating on-call responsibilities.
- Is able to address and resolve moderately complex network problems without direct supervision.
- Proactively plans for future capacity needs and executes related action plans.
- Contributes to the preparation for security compliance (HIPAA, PCI).
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field Required
Experience Qualifications
- At least four (4) years experience in data networking and TCP/IP protocols. Required
- Previous experience in design and configuration of large scale IP network and with security appliances like firewall IPS. Required
- Previous experience supporting missing critical hardware and applications in the healthcare industry and with implementing DSCP based ACL for QoS on Cisco platform Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency with security as it relates to several of the following:
- Common regulatory requirements, including PCI, HIPAA. (Required proficiency)
- Intrusion Detection. (Required proficiency)
- Anti-virus. (Required proficiency)
- Privacy. (Required proficiency)
- Network technologies (firewalls, routers, switches). (Required proficiency)
- Security tools and technologies. (Required proficiency)
- Penetration Testing and vulnerability assessment-Network, Applications Firewall, VPN, IDS and related network security design and implementation. (Required proficiency)
- Strong endpoint security experience, including network design, implementation, and management. (Required proficiency)
- Broad knowledge of VoIP technology and standards (e.g. SIP, COPS, SCTP, MGCP) a plus. (Preferred proficiency)
- Solid understanding of network requirements for real time applications desired. (Preferred proficiency)
- Strong knowledge and experience deploying VoIP services in an enterprise environment a plus. (Preferred proficiency)
- In-depth technical knowledge and understanding of all layers of the protocol stack, including familiarity with major application-layer protocols such as FTP, HTTP, SMTP, and DNS. (Required proficiency)
- Experience implementing DSCP based ACL on Cisco platform a plus (Preferred proficiency)
- Solid experience in WAN network support utilizing WAN optimization tools such as Blue Coat, Packeteer, etc. (Required proficiency)
- Knowledge and experience pertaining to IP data/voice/video solutions in the healthcare industry (Required proficiency)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members, management, customers and support personnel (Required proficiency)
- Knowledge and experience understanding industry best practices on network architecture and engineering and experience in robust network, product/service and system design and implementation strategies. (Required proficiency)
- Good understanding of corporate competency requirements (Required proficiency)
- Experience in setting objectives for technical group (Required proficiency)
- Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in staff management (Required proficiency)
- Experience in planning workload and resource schedules (Required proficiency)
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance routines (Required proficiency)
- Possess an operations background in a large fast pace enterprise environment (Required proficiency)
- Must have excellent computer skills - familiar with all Microsoft Office applications. (Required proficiency)
