Caltech is seeking a visionary leader to establish and execute a strategic plan for Caltech's data technology. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise with the latest technologies and strong organization management skills along with a proven track record of leading organizations for the data transformation journey. The ideal candidate will oversee the organization's overall data strategy, ensuring seamless data integration, robust business intelligence solutions, and enterprise data warehousing. This role involves leading a team of data professionals and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to enable a data-informed decision-making process. This is an Organizational Critical position. In the event of an emergency on campus, an employee designated as organizational critical is expected to report to Campus as soon as possible to assist in division/department response and recovery efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing data solutions team and establish an effective data organization structure.
- Assign tasks, set objectives, and evaluate performance against defined goals and KPIs.
- Foster an environment of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration.
Strategic Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive data management strategy that encompasses the full data needs of Caltech and includes infrastructure, data governance, resources, delivery capabilities, and data products.
- Establish data governance and integration strategies for upcoming ERP projects ensuring robust design and scalability.
- Manage vendor relationships.
- Technical Roadmap and Innovation
- Stay current with emerging technologies and data trends, evaluating their applicability to the organization.
- Continue to evolve data infrastructure, ensuring scalability and performance.
Design and Implementation Responsibilities
- Maintenance and Support - provide necessary guidance to ensure successful execution and maintenance of production processes that include data integration, data warehouse, analytics, and other data tools and infrastructure.
- Oversee the implementation of the comprehensive data management and governance strategy.
- Establish and maintain data governance best practices to ensure data integrity, consistency, and security.
- Oversee compliance with relevant data regulations and enterprise data governance policies.
- Direct the design, development, and maintenance of the enterprise data infrastructure including data warehouse and data lake.
- Lead the creation and optimization of ETL processes for efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading.
- Continue to evolve data integration and dashboard reporting tools to enable insightful data analysis and visualizations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with functional area and technical stakeholders to understand data needs, translating those needs into actionable data solutions.
- Promote data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Establish overall change management and training to enable broader usage and adoption.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- A proven track record with a minimum of 10+ years in data management, data lakes/warehousing, and business intelligence.
- Experience in modern data management platforms
- Significant leadership experience with a minimum of 5+ years managing data solution teams.
- Hands-on experience in implementing and managing multiple data integration projects including ERP transformation.

Hiring Range
$220,000 to $260,000 Per Year
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
