Position has the ability to work from home one day per week. The Director of Benefits is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, administration, and communication of Carilion's employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, life insurance, disability coverage, and absence plans, ensuring compliance with regulations while strategically aligning benefits with Carilion's workforce and maintaining fiscal sustainability. The Director of Benefits leads a seasoned team of consultants and specialists. Will work collaboratively with other HR COEs and organizational leaders to ensure ease of use of benefits products for Carilion's workforce. Significant responsibilities:
- Strategic Benefits Planning:Develop and execute innovative practices and a comprehensive benefits strategy to attract and retain top talent, considering market trends, employee needs, and budget limitations.
- Benefit Program Design:Research, evaluate, and select optimal benefit plans from vendors including self-funded medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and defined contribution and defined benefit retirement plans.
- Implementation and Administration:Oversee the implementation of new benefit plans, manage enrollment processes, communicate benefit details to employees, and address benefit-related inquiries.
- Cost Management:Monitor and analyze benefit utilization data to identify cost-saving opportunities, negotiate with vendors, and manage benefit budgets.
- Compliance Management:Ensure adherence to all applicable federal and state regulations regarding employee benefits, including ERISA, HIPPA, and ACA.
- Team Leadership:Lead and develop a team of benefits specialists, assigning tasks, providing guidance, and coaching staff on benefit administration procedures. Provide leadership and guidance to a remote and hybrid workforce, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Communication and Education:Develop and deliver comprehensive employee communication strategies regarding benefits, including new plan features, enrollment deadlines, and important updates.
- Vendor Management:Manage relationships with insurance carriers, consultants, and other benefit vendors, ensuring quality service and competitive pricing.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:Track key metrics related to benefit utilization and cost, generate reports for senior management to inform decision-making.
- Collaboration:Collaborate with HR colleagues and other departments to ensure alignment of benefits with organizational goals and employee needs. Partner with the leader of Compensation to develop a multi-year strategy for Total Rewards, ensuring a comprehensive and competitive total rewards offering.
What We Require:
Education :Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, business or related field required. Knowledge of related laws & regulations. Relevant Masters' Degree preferred.
Experience: Seven years experience in Benefits with a minimum of three years' management experience in healthcare setting required. Experience managing a self-funded medical plan required. Experience with defined benefit plans preferred.
Other MinimumQualifications:Experience with complex project management, communication strategies and programs; and leadership of multi-disciplinary teams with facilitation outside scope of direct reports required. Demonstrated strategic skills in business planning with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, strong operational focus and financial acumen. Proficient computer system knowledge.
