The Utah Tech Theatre Program is seeking a creative and collaborative theatrical design and technology professional with expertise in Costume Design and Technology to join our dynamic undergraduate training program. This full-time, tenure-track position supports a 4-show production season and teaches within a comprehensive theatre design and technology program. Responsibilities
-
- Teach a 24-credit per academic year load, encompassing teaching responsibilities, reassigned time for production work and mentoring student designers. This will be approximately three courses per semester with reassigned time for production work.
- Potential courses include Costume Design, Costume Construction, Stage Makeup, Creative Cosplay, Costume History, and Study of Period Styles & Decor, with opportunities to develop new courses within the candidate's expertise.
- Design 3 productions per year, with one additional student-designed production under faculty supervision. Our annual season includes two fully produced plays, one musical, and a student-led production. The candidate will oversee costume shop operations and construction.
- Provide artistic and educational leadership in the shop ensuring student engagement and production quality. The production team currently includes a part-time Costume Shop Manager, five work-study positions, additional student involvement through workshop credit opportunities. The Costume Shop Manager oversees day-to-day operations.
- Involvement in student recruitment and retention.
- Department service.
- Scholarly/creative activity typical of tenure-track faculty.
- Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, and adherence to college, division, and university policies and procedures.
- Communicate clearly with students, staff, and colleagues, both orally and in writing.
- Commitment to student recruitment, mentorship, and retention initiatives within the department and university.

Qualifications
-
- MFA in Costume Design and Technology or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience in costume design and makeup design.
- Ability to accurately construct finished costumes from designer renderings.
- Demonstrated skills in draping, flat patterning, cutting, stitching, tailoring, dyeing, millinery, wig preparation, costume crafts, and related areas.
- Strong knowledge of historical and period costume construction techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently within financial constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize communication technologies in teaching and production environments.
- Demonstrated dedication to teaching students from a variety of backgrounds with differing levels of experience.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to student recruitment, mentorship, and retention initiatives within the department and university.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully as a member of a production team, fostering an inclusive learning environment, and proactively promote student success within an academic theatre program.
- Enthusiasm for engaging with students, faculty, and administrators to enhance the educational experience.
- One (1) to three (3) years of college level teaching experience with the ability to develop engaging coursework preferred.
- Experience managing costume shop budgets preferred.
- Proficiency in industry-standard theatre design software preferred, with a willingness to train in additional programs as needed.
- Preference given to candidates with expertise in costume design and makeup for film and dance.
- Preference also given to candidates with knowledge in a secondary area of theatre design or technology.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $57,000-$59,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
