The South Carolina gigafactory in Florence will supply next generation cells for BMW starting in 2026. About the Role

As an MES Engineer (Level 2), you will be responsible for the startup and ongoing support of critical manufacturing applications with a focus on the Apriso MES and related global applications for the manufacturing environment. Your work will directly contribute to production success by integrating machine-level systems, collaborating on system testing and validation, and addressing technical issues related to software design and maintenance. As a key contributor to the IT team, your work will have a direct impact on strategic goals and our global leadership in battery technology.

This is an opportunity for a mid-career engineer to contribute to a dynamic and innovative environment by leading projects and working cross-functionally with various stakeholders.

What You Will Do
  • Participate in the design, implementation, administration, and support of the local AprisMES system with assistance from regional and global MES resources.
  • Collaborate in system integration testing and factory acceptance testing for machine equipment startup; act as a liaison between process equipment engineers, vendors, contractors, and IT to resolve equipment-to-MES connection issues.
  • Assist in the implementation and support of the Ignition SCADA system, including PLCs, HMIs, control, and supervisory systems for building automation and manufacturing support.
  • Implement and support other plant-specific applications, such as platforms for quality, supply chain management, and ERP systems.
  • Provide improvements to new and existing systems in coordination with the global Center of Excellence (CoE) Team.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, product engineers, quality teams, and production managers to optimizeproduction processes.
  • Establish and maintain interfaces and communication between MES, ERP, and other systems, ensuring smooth data flow.
  • Prepare and maintain full MES documentation to support system functionality and improvements.
  • Learn and improve existing in-house systems, resolving issues and implementing new feature requests.
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications
What You Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, technical training, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation environments working with MES systems, application development, or data collection related to factory automation.
  • Experience with application and system integrations, particularly in an MES context.
  • Experience with machine-level integrations and SCADA systems, including HMIs, PLCs, and control systems.
  • Strong understanding of databases and database management tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to troubleshoot, modify, and standardize EUC environments.
  • Ability to engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously, managing priorities effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of interacting professionally with diverse groups, including executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
  • Understanding of root cause analysis (RCA) and problem-solving techniques for issue resolution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Teams and PowerPoint.
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
  • Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
What is "Nice to Have"?
  • Experience with Apriso MES and Ignition SCADA Systems.
  • Experience integrating MES environments with other applications, such as SAP.
  • Experience in greenfield manufacturing plant startups.
  • Knowledge of Open Platform Communication (OPC) servers, such as Kepware.
  • Experience with Oracle Databases.
  • Programming experience in .NET, C#, VB.net, or similar languages.
  • Experience with PowerBI for data visualization.
  • Background in OT/IT network design elements.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum project management methods.
  • Experience with incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and technologies.
  • Understanding of battery manufacturing, EV manufacturing, or refinery operations is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in additional languages beyond English is advantageous.
  • Cross-cultural experience in global operations.
Travel

This role may require occasional domestic travel to support the startup and maintenance of manufacturing systems across AESC gigafactory locations.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic.
