Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.

Dually focused on holistic health of Cornell students and well-being of the larger campus community, the unit supports readiness to learn, to participate fully in the Cornell experience, and to achieve academic, work, and life success. The Skorton Center for Health Initiatives promotes a healthy campus environment and community through institutional leadership, educational initiatives, research and evaluation, and public engagement. The Skorton Center's core focus areas are the promotion of student mental health and well-being, and the prevention of suicide, alcohol and other drug misuse, sexual violence, hazing, and bias. Throughout its work, the Skorton Center prioritizes health equity and student well-being.

The Well-being Coaching Program Director will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a campus-wide Motivational Interviewing (MI)-based Well-being Coaching Program. The program will promote holistic flourishing and the personal and professional growth of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students through culturally responsive, strengths-based, and non-clinical coaching services. The program director will oversee all aspects of program operations, including training, supervision, research, and campus collaboration, while leading and supporting a growing interdisciplinary team of part-time coaches, comprised of existing professional staff across the university. They will ensure program effectiveness through evidence-based practices, staff development, and interdisciplinary collaboration, aligning with health-promoting campus principles and fostering a supportive culture of well-being.

This position collaborates with colleagues in Cornell Health, across the university, and within the community to promote and evaluate well-being initiatives through a comprehensive and collaborative approach.

  • Flexible in adjusting to evolving work environments, responsibilities, and departmental priorities, including work beyond regular business hours, such as weekends and evenings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a related field with significant relevant experience.
  • Active licensure as a mental health provider (e.g., psychologist, clinical social worker).
  • Certification as a Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) member, or active pursuit and completion of certification within one year of hire.
  • Proven leadership and operational expertise in managing, training, and leading interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based health-promoting training programs and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and tact in managing program scope and alignment with non-clinical approaches.
  • Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Bookings), SPSS, and a willingness to research and adopt new platforms to enhance program operations.
  • Proficiency in research design, data analysis, and program evaluation.
  • Commitment to equity and culturally responsive practices.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training and experience in Motivational Interviewing (MI), evidence-based coaching, person-centered approaches, and cultural responsiveness.
  • Experience in health promotion, prevention, and settings-based well-being approaches in higher education.
  • Demonstrated skill in translating relevant research and theory into practice.
  • Proficiency in program evaluation using mixed-methods to assess process, impact, and outcomes.
  • Proven record of scholarly contributions through publications or conference presentations.
