Job Description

The University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL ) Center for Teaching and Learning team is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Instructional Designer II to join our team. This position is designed for individuals with limited instructional design experience in higher education but who are eager to develop their skills in online course design and faculty support. Ideal candidates may include recent graduates in instructional design, educational technology, or related fields, or former faculty members who have taught online and are interested in transitioning to instructional design.

The Instructional Designer II will work closely with experienced instructional designers and faculty to support the creation of high-quality online courses and promote effective teaching strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Online Course Development Support

  • Assist faculty in the design and development of online courses by providing guidance on instructional strategies and tools.
  • Collaborate with senior instructional designers to ensure courses meet quality standards and align with learning objectives.
  • Support the integration of multimedia and interactive content to enhance the online learning experience.

2. Faculty Collaboration and Support

  • Work with faculty to identify and implement best practices for online teaching.
  • Provide support for basic instructional design tasks, such as creating course templates, uploading content, and troubleshooting minor issues.
  • Participate in faculty workshops and training sessions as a facilitator or assistant.

3. Quality Assurance and Feedback

  • Conduct initial reviews of online courses for consistency and adherence to institutional standards.
  • Assist in gathering and organizing feedback for course improvement.
  • Maintain and update instructional resources and tools to support course design.

4. Technology Use and Exploration

  • Learn and apply instructional technologies to support course design (e.g., LMS tools, video editing software, interactive content platforms).
  • Assist faculty and staff with basic technical questions and troubleshooting related to the learning management system (LMS).
  • Explore emerging educational technologies and share insights with the instructional design team.

5. Professional Development and Growth

  • Participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities provided by senior instructional designers.
  • Engage in professional development activities to build expertise in instructional design, online pedagogy, and course development tools.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. The University will not sponsor applicants for this position for employment visas.

Shift

40 hours/week with opportunity for four 10-hour days as flexible schedule option.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Education, or a related field.
  • Former experience as a faculty member or online instructor in higher education is a plus.
  • Familiarity with online teaching practices and course design principles.
  • Interest or experience in using instructional design tools (e.g., Articulate, Camtasia, or similar).
  • A willingness to learn and apply accessibility and universal design for learning (UDL) principles.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$44,262.40 - $63,003.20
