Kleinschmidt has an on-call, part-time opening for a Scientist to participate in a variety of science projects related to wetland ecology, delineations, and terrestrial habitat. The position will be based in our Bellingham, WA, Redmond, WA or Portland OR office. Our flexibility and core value of relationships allows us to offer employees the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment including working from the office and remotely.

Salary: $40.00-59.00/hour (based on experience)

Who You Are

A certified Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) with an BS in Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience working as a PWS.

Knowledgeable: Knowledge of discipline specific methodologies, analysis techniques, principles of data accuracy, QA/QC, and ability to apply to projects. Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Field Maps. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with Nationwide and individual 404 permitting, Oregon and/or Washington Joint Permit Application process. Familiarity supporting NEPA documentation.

Skilled: Ability to prioritize and manage several assignments often with tight deadlines, as well as work as a part of a team. Ability to work in remote and rugged environments required.   • Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license


About the Position

  • Conduct wetland delineations using the USACE 1987 Manual and regional supplements.
  • Prepare wetland assessment reports and permit applications.
  • Perform field surveys and data collection.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other environmental scientists.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Train aspiring wetland scientist to assist with PWS certification

Our Process

Kleinschmidt strives to provide a great candidate experience. After careful review of resumes, we will notify those we are interested in interviewing.
