Director - Operations Service & Support

POSITION PURPOSE

Manages a team of professionals that are responsible for operational services and support functions within MGE. This includes leadership over Generation and Distribution Operation Centers, Asset Management and Geographic Information Services (GIS), Operations Support, and Underground Locating teams. This individual drives operational efficiency, ensures regulatory compliance, and maintains a high standard of service across these key areas. This role is vital in supporting the day-to-day functioning of our utility operations while implementing process improvements that enhance performance, safety, and reliability.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and manage multiple teams, including Generation and Distribution Operating Centers, GIS, Operations Support, and Underground Locating. Foster a collaborative, high-performing environment, and ensure each department functions cohesively toward common operational goals.

Generation and Distribution Operations

  • Oversee the efficient operation and performance of the generation and distribution operating centers. Ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of energy to customers. Work closely with engineers and field teams to resolve issues and optimize performance.

Asset Management and Geographic Information Services (GIS)

  • Provide strategic direction for Asset Management and GIS operations. Ensure the effective integration of GIS systems with utility operations, enhancing MGE's ability to manage infrastructure, track assets, and support planning efforts. Provide Asset Management analysis services to Energy Operations teams.

Underground Locating Services

  • Oversee the underground locating team to ensure the safe and accurate identification of underground utilities, minimizing the risk of damage during construction, or other activities.

Operations Support

  • Oversee operations support functions, ensuring operational efficiently, including documentation, scheduling, reporting, and customer interactions.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, including safety standards and industry best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, operations management, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in utility operations, with at least five years in a leadership or managerial role overseeing diverse utility operations and/or engineering functions.

The position is hybrid, and office days are in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, where MGE is an active participant in community efforts to preserve the area's extraordinary quality of life.
