Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Data Visualization Specialist and Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst for the University Finance and Administration Data Analytics. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Analytics, this position will leverage their expertise to craft compelling and insightful data visualizations. This role involves gathering requirements, preparing data, and creating and maintaining dashboards. The analyst will collaborate closely with stakeholders to deliver meaningful analytics and dashboards that provide valuable insights.

Additionally, the analyst will be responsible for data preparation and integration processes, developing custom calculations and advanced visualizations, and implementing best practices for optimal dashboard performance and user experience. The role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency in SQL, and the ability to translate data insights into clear, actionable recommendations. The analyst will also provide training and support to team members, develop technical and functional documentation, and stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in data visualization and business intelligence.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Designs, builds, and maintains interactive, visually engaging dashboards and reports using Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server.
  • Explores and develops data visualization using Oracle Analytics Cloud.
  • Develops custom calculations, parameters, and advanced visualizations in Tableau or other Rutgers tools.
  • Implements best practices for optimal dashboard performance and user experience.
  • Writes complex SQL queries to support data visualization needs.
  • Performs data preparation and integration processes using Tableau Prep.
  • Translates data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for key stakeholders.
  • Exceptional documentation and organization skills - taking complex requirements and efficiently summarizing them into actionable items.
  • Supports key stakeholders in evaluating data that supports business requirements.
  • Creates technical and functional requirements, specifications, and user documents.
  • Provides timely and professional guidance and direction to end users with high-quality assurance.
  • Transforms raw data into easily understandable charts, graphs, dashboards, and interactive visuals to help decision-makers grasp information quickly and make informed choices.
  • Utilizes data storytelling techniques to present data insights in a compelling and engaging manner.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Also requires five years of relevant experience.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven experience as a Data Visualization Specialist, Business Intelligence Analyst, or similar role.
  • Expertise in Tableau data visualization, including Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address and support the needs of the university.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with Excel and SQL with an understanding of database systems and data modeling concepts.
  • Ability to create compelling data stories that drive decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with programming languages and tools, e.g., Python, R, Tableau Prep, Alteryx.
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and tools.
  • Certification in Tableau or other data visualization/business intelligence tools.
  • Experience in Higher Education Analytics.
  • Experience with Finance data.
  • Experience with Oracle Analytics Cloud is a plus.
