More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day. The Associated Press seeks a Contract Supervisor for its Global Procurement Department at AP headquarters in New York. This position reports to the Senior Procurement Manager. Global Procurement is responsible for the company-wide procurement of goods and services. The department's mission is to maximize efficiencies and leverage procurement practices both internally and externally to ensure that "the best value at the lowest price" is consistently achieved. The Contract Supervisor negotiates and manages the company's purchasing-related contracts. This position is a key contributor to the ongoing development of Global Procurement and directly impacts the department's performance. The ideal candidate has a proven record of successfully negotiating legal and business contract terms. They are a reliable self-starter capable of managing their own priorities while also directing suppliers and their respective teams. Main Responsibilities:
- Review and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including professional services agreements, statements of work, confidentiality agreements, master services agreements, leasing agreements (e.g., office equipment, corporate vehicles), and agreements for technology-related services and software licensing.
- Develop standardized contract templates and clauses.
- Educate and assist internal customers with procurement contract inquiries, including advising on contract interpretation.
- Negotiate contract terms directly with vendors' legal and business representatives.
- Manage the contracts database, including database entries, tracking contract renewals, drafting termination notices, amendments, and renewals as appropriate, and training end users on contract loading and database usage.
- Proactively identify and explore new cost-saving opportunities by engaging in discussions and educating internal customers on Global Procurement's overall services and goals.
- Liaise with the Legal Department on contract negotiations as needed.
- Perform other projects as required.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience working with contracts.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, legal studies, or a finance-related field preferred.
- Strong drafting skills are required.
- Excellent understanding of legal contract terms is required.
- Paralegal experience is a plus.
- Ability to prioritize tasks to meet internal deadlines and expectations without sacrificing quality.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to understand financial statements, statistics, and technology-related performance measurements (e.g., service level agreements).
- Flexibility and willingness to take on additional projects as assigned.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with all levels of management, both internally and externally.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- SharePoint knowledge is a plus.
- Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English is required.
- Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
Salary & Benefits:The anticipated salary range for this position is $90,000 - $100,000, contingent on experience and other job-related factors. The Associated Press offers comprehensive benefits which include:
