Responsibilities Job Summary Utilizes the Nursing Process to perform a variety of patient care activities under the supervision/direction of a Registered Nurse. Applications of specific skills are limited to those in which the Extern has received didactic instruction and demonstrates clinical competency. The Extern may not administer medications or IV therapy, unless it is under the direct supervision of an RN. The Nurse Graduate Extern functions as an Extern, but has graduated from an approved registered nursing program and is awaiting licensure or licensure examination. Note that incumbent must pass licensure examination within 6 months after the date of classification into this position. The staff member must demonstrate the knowledge of the principals of growth and development across the life span and demonstrate the skills necessary to provide direct and indirect care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. The individual must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the Department Operating Policies.
Qualifications Education Other Completed a NLN/CCNE accredited Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, awaiting NCLEX exam Required Licenses and Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) Required |
