Job Description - Landscaper

Normal Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess and maintain a valid, up-to-date driver's license
  • Must be able to pass State test to obtain herbicide license within six months of hire
  • Must have basic knowledge of landscape and maintenance service
  • Must be able to pass a competency-based test to demonstrate skills, knowledge, and landscaping maintenance qualifications
  • Must be able to operate power tools, chain saws, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, and mowing tractors
  • Must have basic knowledge of fertilizer and herbicides
  • Ability physically bend, stoop, and lift up to 50lbs for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work harmoniously with fellow workers and customers maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and in inclement weather
  • Ability to work in a manner that prevents injury
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

There will be a two-part testing procedure required for this position. The first step is a written technical exam followed by a behavioral based interview. Each step of the process must be passed in order to progress to the next step.

We are providing a study outline to prepare for both the technical skills exam and the behavioral based interview. The outline is designed to maximize test results by centralizing study times in the areas listed below:

Written Technical Exam

The technical exam is a multiple choice test that evaluates the applicant's knowledge of the following categories:

  • Functional working knowledge of herbicides and pesticides
  • Units of measure
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Basic General Safety Rules
  • Basic Algebra
  • OSHA Regulations: Employee and employer responsibilities

Behavioral Based Interview

The interview is a behavioral based interview incorporating our Core Competencies. In this process we believe that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior and more recent behavior is a better predictor of future behavior than older behavior, and that long-standing trends are better predictors of behavior than isolated incidents. We therefore have patterned the questions during the interview to solicit behavior patterns that indicate with high predictability whether the candidate can perform the job as required. This type of interview is different than those that you may have taken in the past.

Position Description:

This job classification provides service for the landscape and utility maintenance work group.

Position-Related Responsibilities:

  • Performs general cleanup work, yard and site maintenance. Tree trimming, plant cultivation and care, some of which will be in close proximity to energized electrical equipment.

  • Able to operate all automotive equipment including one-ton pickup truck with trailers, mower tractor, power graffiti equipment, power paint equipment. Also expected to operate small power tools such as hedge trimmers, weed eaters, chain saw, spray power pack, plus a variety of hand tools will be required to do roof patch work. Ability to repair fences, gates and doors.

  • Knowledge of irrigation drip systems and timers.

  • Respond to customer inquiries, job orders, and resolution of these inquiries.

  • Storage, use and purchasing of herbicides, insecticides and basic maintenance supplies.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Herbicide license.

  • Perform monthly substation safety inspections.

  • Inspect all substation HVAC. Replace window HVAC units when necessary in substations.

  • Perform general maintenance, repair of fencing, gates and buildings within substation boundaries.

  • Ability to perform bee removal duties.

  • Perform assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices and procedures.

  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Company policies and procedures effecting Landscape and Utility Maintenance.

  • Knowledge of applicable landscape and utility maintenance requirements, TEP utility services.

  • Technical skills pertaining to duties of the work group.

  • Must be able to obtain an Arizona State Herbicide License.

  • Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License.

Pay Rate: $18.85/hr
