National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer, Electrical Planning and Designfor Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations

Job Purpose

The Senior Engineer's responsibilities encompass a wide range of duties across our Protection Policy & Support and IEC 61850 engineering functions. The Protection Policy & Support function contributes to the development of technical policies, guidelines, and standards related to protection and control systems and the IEC 61850 function supports and contributes to the Company's vision of a digital substation leveraging current IEC 61850 standards.

Key Accountabilities
  • In this critical role you will develop, review, and support the implementation of system protection, control, and network design standards and asset health strategies in consultation with internal stakeholders.
  • You will represent the Company on industry organizations, committees, and groups and participate in the formulation of industry-wide standards and practices.
  • You will have the opportunity to develop key relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver appropriate customized solutions and/or recommendations.
  • You will develop, implement, and provide technical support for current IEC 61850 standards.
  • You will provide technical support and other support, including emergency support, to various departments including, but not limited to, engineering, operations, procurement, information technology, and operational technology.
  • You will support the delivery of IEC 61850-based substation projects in the capital work plan.
  • You will develop configurations and support coordination of testing in the simulator lab.
  • You will provide technical guidance, support, and coaching to others to share knowledge and develop technical understanding within discipline.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology from an ABET accredited engineering institution required.
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 & associated standards, IEEE/ANSI Standards, NESC and National Electrical Code (as applicable).
  • EIT Certification or Registered Professional Engineering License a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc.).
  • Good working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, existing electrical design codes, and federal and state regulations affecting protection.
  • Experience with electric power facilities with an emphasis on protection, control systems, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience creating new ways to plan and operate the electric supply and distribution systems using advanced analytics, emerging technologies, and industry trends.
  • Experience with electrical panel or cabinet design, construction, and assembly is a plus.
  • Experience with digital device integration and substation automation is a plus.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) and leadership qualities.
  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy to facilitate travel, as required, across US service territory

Salary - $150,000 - $176,000
