Job Summary:
The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a faculty position in the tenure track (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor). Scientists with a research program focused on the biology of aging and extending the healthspan are particularly encouraged to apply. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to aging-related research in the following areas: - Immunology - Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine - The role of Nutrition/microbiome in maintaining immune homeostasis - Neuroscience and Neuroinflammatory mechanisms - Immuno-Oncology - Metabolism and Metabolic Disorders - Senescence Modulation Therapies We aim to build upon and expand existing strengths within the School of Veterinary Medicine and foster collaborative research across UW-Madison within a campus-wide hiring initiative: Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly (RISE)-THRIVE (Transforming Healthspan through Research, InnoVation, and Education) initiative. RISE-THRIVE is set to harness and grow the university's reputation as a global powerhouse in interdisciplinary health research -- translating both medical discoveries and innovative social science approaches into tangibly healthier lives for Wisconsinites and people and communities around the world.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an extramurally funded and nationally recognized research program. Competitive candidates should leverage new and existing strengths within the UW-Madison to make basic or translational science discoveries using novel approaches to increase healthspan in humans and animals. This may include programs that advance knowledge in therapeutics, precision medicine, biomarkers, animal modeling, -omics, topics related to OneHealth, the microbiome in health and disease, nutrition and healthy aging, behavior, and cognition.

Responsibilities:
The candidate will participate in the School of Veterinary Medicine's research, teaching, and service programs. Specifically, they will be expected to conduct collaborative extramurally funded research in an area related to healthy aging and extending healthspan. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to make significant contributions to the veterinary curriculum and to mentor graduate students and/or postdoctoral trainees. Participation in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments, schools and colleges will be expected. Participation in departmental and university service and a commitment to fostering a collegial and supportive academic environment are expected . The approximate distribution of effort will be 70% research, 20% teaching, 10% academic service.

Two years of postdoctoral experience with demonstrated research excellence and strong potential for extramural funding is required.
Individuals with a degree in veterinary medicine or equivalent are particularly encouraged to apply.

Over the next three academic years, UW-Madison will substantially increase current hiring levels, bringing 150 new RISE faculty to campus.
