The Associate Vice President for Finance (AVPF) is the Chief Financial Officer for Georgetown University Law Center (Georgetown Law). Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Georgetown Law, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the University Chief Financial Officer (University CFO), the AVPF leads financial planning, budgeting, capital financing, and fiscal management for Georgetown Law's $200 million operating budget and its long-term capital projects. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Partner closely with the Dean, COO, and senior leadership team to develop and implement strategies that advance the Law Center's academic and research missions, ensuring long-term financial sustainability and operational effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership over all finance-related functions and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support Georgetown Law's continued growth and global impact.
  • Serve as a core member of the Georgetown Law executive leadership team, participating in strategic decision-making related to finance, capital planning, and resource allocation.
  • In collaboration with the COO, the Dean, and senior faculty leaders, advise on resource prioritization, ensuring the alignment of financial strategies with Georgetown Law's academic, research, and service missions.


Work Interactions

The AVPF reports to the COO of Georgetown Law and maintains a dotted-line reporting relationship to the University CFO to ensure consistency in financial planning and policy implementation across the university. The AVPF also serves as a key liaison with external partners, including government agencies, auditors, and international partners such as the Center for Transnational Legal Studies (CTLS) in London. Senior Business Officers in Georgetown Law's Centers and Institutes have a dotted-line reporting relationship to the AVPF, who collaborates with these leaders on recruitment, performance management, and fiscal stewardship.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible financial management and leadership experience in a complex organization, preferably within higher education or nonprofit institutions
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field required; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, CPA, or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, financial planning, capital project financing, and financial modeling
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale budgets (minimum $200 million), complex capital projects, and global initiatives
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and international regulatory compliance, including tax compliance in multiple jurisdictions
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across academic, administrative, and external stakeholder groups
  • Experience in fund accounting, grants management, and research funding oversight
  • Advanced technological skills, including financial systems implementation and data analytics
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$135,188.00 - $264,291.85

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
