Engineering Project Manager I

Your Role: We are seeking an individual to provide project engineering design and project management services supporting Port Aviation, Marine and Industrial facilities, which includes airfield, building, utilities, environmental, rail, dredging and transportation related projects. We offer a flexible hybrid schedule that combines work-life balance with team collaboration. You'll be in the office Tuesday through Thursday to engage with colleagues and support our business lines, with the flexibility to work from home on Mondays and Fridays.


Essential Job Duties

  • Manage projects up to $25M by developing and managing project delivery plan, covering the major items of scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Provide leadership and communication, including progress updates throughout the lifecycle of the project amongst project stakeholders and with the project sponsor.
  • Manage project budgets throughout the lifecycle of the project, including tracking of both internal and external staff resource costs, construction costs, budget status reports, and forecasting. Coordinate and report costs, impacts to operations, and tenant concerns to project stakeholders.
  • Provide engineering design, technical direction, and leadership for projects.
  • Apply advanced engineering skills to develop, analyze, evaluate, and set criteria for solutions to project-related issues.
  • Apply professional judgment and experience to understand the broader, business context for projects and the associated implications for those engineering decisions made.
  • Produce contractually sound and biddable project documents including designs, drawings, and specifications, while working within established cost, quality, and time parameters. Manage process to acquire permits, including building and environmental permits, required to complete construction projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field required.
  • Minimum four years of progressively more responsible experience in a professional engineering capacity; experience in design, coordination, and/or management of capital projects. OR;
  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) - State Licensure Board, required.
  • Valid Driver's License - State DOT, required.

Demonstrated Skills & Abilities

  • Intermediate level project management and project delivery process skills.
  • Skilled in contracting process and methods for construction, professional services, and equipment procurements.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the range of project delivery methods available for public agencies including but not limited to Design-Bid-Build, Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC), Design-Build, etc. Intermediate Engineering field(s) related to capital project design and construction.
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering design standards and related building codes and regulations for integration into project plans and designs.
  • Intermediate level of civil engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and/or marine structures engineering techniques and practices.
  • Interactive CAD design skills.
  • Ability to work with clients to develop project plans or participate with project manager/senior project engineers in the development of plans for complex projects.
  • Present information in a public setting to Port Commission and managers in a clear and concise manner.
  • Write construction specifications in Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) format.

Supplemental and Selection Information

Security

Employees in this position will be required to successfully pass and maintain security clearance relevant to assigned duties such as SIDA (Security Identification Display Area).

Compensation
Our organization adheres to established salary ranges for each position to ensure equitable pay practices. However, final offers are determined based on various factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and considerations of internal pay equity.

SELECTION PROCESS (tentative schedule):

  1. A minimum qualification evaluation of education, training, and experience of submitted application packets will take place by Human Resources the week of April 14, 2025.
  2. A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials.
  3. Our goal is to schedule virtual first round of interviews with candidates who successfully passed the SME evaluation as soon as possible.
