Department Summary The Department of Physical Therapy prepares future movement specialists through an evidence-based and patient-centered curriculum. The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, available in both residential and hybrid pathways, blends foundational sciences, hands-on training, and clinical experiences to develop well-rounded and compassionate providers. Faculty collaborate with local physical therapy professionals to ensure students receive the most relevant and impactful education. With a low student-to-faculty ratio, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and clinical placements across the state and beyond, the department fosters leadership and innovation in physical therapy. The curriculum supports research and professional development, equipping graduates to improve patient mobility and quality of life. Position Overview The Department of Physical Therapy at UNTHSC is growing! The department is searching for a dynamic educator to serve in the role of Assistant Professor for a new hybrid pathway Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. This key role will be hired immediately and will play a pivotal part in designing, delivering, and contributing to the academic education experiences for our prospective hybrid DPT students while collaborating with our residential pathway academic education team to ensure equity and excellence across the department. This full-time faculty position is asked to have a strong background in sports rehabilitation, injury prevention, performance optimization, and evidence-based clinical practice, with sports specialization. Courses available include Therapeutic Exercise, Modalities, Exercise Physiology, and Sports Clinical Diagnosis and Management. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and program stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of academic education and prepare our students for successful careers in physical therapy. This Assistant Professor will hold teaching responsibilities in the hybrid pathway commiserate with experience and may assist in activities in the residential pathway as needed. The faculty member is expected to participate in the design, assessment, and delivery of their assigned courses while advising and mentoring students in the hybrid pathway program. This position will be hybrid and requires frequent trips to the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex for onsite activities, site visits, and collaboration tasks several times a year. Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate will possess the following: Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) required from an accredited physical therapy program. Licensed physical therapist in Texas (or the eligibility to obtain a Texas license) with a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience. Evidence of teaching effectiveness in an academic or clinical setting. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with all individuals and stakeholders within and outside the University. Active participation in professional activities at the local, state, and/or national level. Preferred Qualifications An earned academic doctoral degree (ScD, DSc, EdD, PhD) or plans to obtain an earned academic doctoral degree. Previous teaching responsibilities in a residential or hybrid format DPT program. ABPTS certification is desired; Board Certification in Sports Physical Therapy (SCS) or substantial clinical experience in sports rehabilitation Lives local to the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex for frequent visits. Job Duties: Teaching Teach entry-level DPT courses related to sports physical therapy, biomechanics, exercise prescription, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Develop and implement evidence-based curriculum that aligns with CAPTE accreditation standards and enhances the desire for students to attain careers in sports physical therapy. Utilize innovative teaching methods, including case-based learning, simulation, and technology-enhanced instruction in a hybrid teaching environment (online and onsite). Work with the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) to develop and maintain sports PT clinical placements for students. Establish and strengthen relationships with sports teams, outpatient orthopedic clinics, and rehabilitation centers to enhance experiential learning. Research and Scholarship Engage in scholarly activity related to area of interests. Support and mentor DPT student capstone projects and research initiatives. Pursue collaborations on intra and interdisciplinary research initiatives within the department, institution, or community. Service Contribute to departmental and institutional committees, supporting programmatic and accreditation-related efforts. Engage in community outreach and professional service. Maintain active involvement in professional organizations (APTA, ABPTS, ACSM, NATA) and promote student engagement in professional development.
