Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Custodian supports other staff by performing task-oriented duties while providing clerical, analytical, administrative, and/or operational support. Under close supervision, performs basic cleaning and custodial duties in assigned areas(s). Involves extensive physical labor, safety and working with cleaning products.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Cleans assigned area to standards set by college and supervisor
  2. Duties include, but are not limited to, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, washing windows, cleaning and restocking restrooms, picking up and emptying trash
  3. Assigned area(s) cover the entire campus complex and may include, but are not limited to: classrooms, offices, Library Resource Center, restrooms, locker room, cafeteria, hallways, stairways, elevators, common areas
  4. May set up or break down tables/chairs, rooms as assigned
  5. Maintains safety standards at all times including not mixing chemicals and cleaners, using equipment properly, identifying unsafe areas to students/faculty/others, lifting, stooping,

and bending properly

  1. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in use of custodial equipment needed to accomplish assigned duties
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work on multiple projects
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds
  • Ability to reach, push, and stand for a prolonged period of time

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound
  • Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction

WORKING SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes,Broom, mop, vacuum, and other general equipment incidental to the performance of custodial duties
  • Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed inside and outdoors, with exposure to dust, dirt, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Salary

Hiring salary range is $29,027-$33,381

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
