Lead Data Scientist

Cox Communications is looking for a Lead Data Scientist who will be a core member of the Network Analytics and Reliability Enablement team. This role will be responsible for discovery, development and enablement of key analytical solutions in the cloud in support of Service Reliability Operations. This is a hands-on role that will directly support our Network Analytics and partner with the broader Service Reliability organization.

Qualifications

  • Innovative Thinking: Drive and/or being willing to embrace innovative approaches/different ways of doing things
  • Track record of partnering with stakeholders to understand the problem at hand, help generate hypothesis and problem formulation and the selection of an appropriate methodology to solve the problem
  • 6 or more years of experience in related field (i.e. Reporting, Analytics, etc.) OR 3-4 years of experience in related field if candidate has an advanced degree
  • Strong programming skills and ability to utilize a variety of data, analytic software, languages/tools; e.g., SQL, Python (pandas, numpy, scipy, scikit-learn), PySpark, Tableau, etc.
  • Experience with technology focused reporting
  • Strong ability to interpret data and develop actionable data-based visualizations to "tell the story" and aid in business decision making
  • Proven ability translating technical findings to Executives in a manner that is easily understandable to those less experienced with analytics
  • Experience developing and delivering analytics applications in AWS.
  • Experience developing production solutions with real-time data and analytics.
  • Experience developing AI applications


Responsibilities:

  • Utilize frameworks in AWS for transitioning analytics solutions at different maturity levels between data science and operational teams
  • Design, Build, and Maintain Analytics applications leveraging AWS AI models.
  • Follow data engineering best practices with considerations for high data availability, computational efficiency, cost, and quality
  • Collaborate with technical partners to create a data stack that can be used to deliver end-user insights used to develop Network Operations Center and Enterprise Mission Control solutions, designed to assist technicians with insights and optimize operational transactions
  • Lead requirement and design discussions to distill business needs into business requirements which enable analytics for new business initiatives and KPIs
  • Leverage deep understanding of business processes and key data sets to create complex ad hoc queries that identify operational gaps and opportunities for Network Operations Center and Enterprise Mission Control
  • Construct complex database queries and create engaging dashboards and visualizations that support data aggregation and reporting on actionable insights
  • Manage and execute tasks to accomplish User Acceptance Testing and Business Validation to ensure high level of data availability and data quality
  • Participate in QA testing for data pipeline projects as well as implementation changes to the suite of analytical tools like AWS Athena & Tableau
  • Mentor resources on the data engineering team


Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 6 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 4 years' experience; a Ph.D. and 1 year of experience; or 10 years' experience in a related field
  • Strong ability to work independently with ambiguous data assets. Experience working with cross-functional departments and teams to further identify Subject Matter Experts for Knowledge Transfer
  • Excellent data visualization skills: able to determine the appropriate visualization and create compelling stories with data
  • Strong business acumen and judgement combined with excellent verbal and written communication that can be used to drive our strategy throughout all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrate organizational empathy while delivering results. Ability to build relationships quickly, collaborate and lead with courage
  • Strong programming skills and ability to utilize software/languages/tools, e.g., Spark, Python, Scala, Java, C+, Hive, SQL, etc


Preferred:

  • Experience within telecommunications, cable industry, high tech, or consulting
  • Expertise in Tableau or other data visualization solutions and/or tools
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies, experience in Scrum or Product Owner role
  • Understanding of SDLC collaboration, including experience with tools such as GIT
  • Practical experience building real-time applications in AWS
  • Expertise with AWS AI models and implementation


USD 119,600.00 - 199,400.00 per year

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $119,600.00 - $199,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Benefits:

The Company offers eligible employees the flexibility to take as much vacation with pay as they deem consistent with their duties, the company's needs, and its obligations; seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year; and up to 160 hours of paid wellness annually for their own wellness or that of family members.
