Optum is seeking a Sr. Director in the Optum Advisory Technology Consulting Practice.

Successful candidates will have proven healthcare payer consulting experience and business development experience, have led a team of consultants, large scale payer systems implementations experience, creating service offerings and leading practice-level initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Acts as a trusted advisor across client organization and builds deep relationships with senior-most clients
  • Advises clients on their most critical concerns, within and beyond immediate project scope
  • Proven ability to accurately diagnose the issues the client has identified (as well as underlying issues) and determine the appropriate strategic solutions, approach and key deliverables
  • Drives the pursuit of new opportunities and coaching those more junior on the pursuit team
  • Provides executive oversight and guidance for multiple concurrent projects including those with high complexity
  • Effectively manages engagement scope and proactively communicates with client if/when scope may require adjustment and facilitate customer conversations related to changing dynamics
  • Build consensus among client stakeholders who play a critical role in the client's ability to successfully implement the identified solutions
  • Leads team on how to make written communication and design of key deliverables more compelling (e.g., subject matter expertise and industry or client knowledge)
  • Contribute to practice-level initiatives including new service offering development and thought leadership beyond client project work
  • Conduct research studies that may include collecting, analyzing, trending and presenting data and recommendations to management
  • Provide coaching and mentoring of project team with the goal of developing and retaining talent within the organization

Required Qualifications:



  • 10+ years of healthcare industry experience including health plan operations and technology
  • Experience in a people leader role with both direct reports and oversight of a matrixed team of consultants
  • Background in payer healthcare consulting and business development
  • Proven business development/sales experience with ability to identify opportunities, frame the solution and approach, and close the deal in a team based selling environment.
  • Proven large scale systems/core administrative platform implementation experience in an agile development environment
  • Willing or ability to travel domestically based on client needs



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Certified Scrum Master or other Agile certification
  • Experience managing projects that achieved budget and timeline goals
  • Experience mentoring junior level staff
  • Demonstrated ability to possess analytical reasoning and solution-focus problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills

The salary range for this role is $150,200 to $288,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
