Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Division of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance provides the University with a full range of Human Resources, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX programs and services to support the University's teaching, research, and public service mission. The division develops and implements strategies and initiatives that will strengthen and support the University's workforce.
The Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office (
EOC) is
UNC-Chapel Hill's designated, central office for addressing issues related to discrimination and harassment based on any protected status, including sexual assault, sexual violence, interpersonal violence, and stalking, as well as retaliation and other related misconduct.
EOC addresses all matters related to compliance with relevant education and employment laws and regulations, including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Title
VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other related laws. EOC's compliance efforts include creating, implementing, and enforcing University policies that promote an equitable, inclusive, and welcoming campus community; providing accommodations for students and employees based on protected status; handling matters related to equal employment opportunities; and providing educational programs and consulting services in these areas across campus. |
Position Summary |
This position is responsible for processing accommodation requests and effectively communicating policies related to eligibility for disability, pregnancy, and religious accommodations for employees and students. The role involves conducting fact-finding, evaluating accommodation options, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and laws. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prior accommodation experience is required. Must have strong writing skills and be able to communicate clearly in a professional manner to students and staff who need assistance, both in writing and in virtual or phone meetings. Extremely strong writing, communications skills, and professionalism will be required as well as familiarity in working with confidential information. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience with policy management and implementation in the workplace and prior experience in fact gathering and/or conversational interviewing or some related experience.
MSW,
MPH, or JD preferred. |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
* Ability to engage in detailed analytical thinking and problem-solving to assess accommodation requests and compliance requirements.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to navigate sensitive conversations with individuals seeking accommodations.
* Capacity to handle high-stress situations with empathy and professionalism.
* Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
* Proficiency in using technology and case management systems for documentation, assessment, and decision-making.
* Ability to report to campus on-site as directed is an essential function of this position. This includes, but is not limited to, the ability to work on-site outside of normal business hours during final exams and commencement. |
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
