DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will provide professional work in the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of individuals with drug and alcohol substance abuse or dependence problems. Your responsibilities will primarily involve overseeing and facilitating a variety of inpatient and outpatient groups and programs to promote positive cognitive and behavioral changes within participants to enhance their chances for successful re-entry into the community. Work includes providing on-the-job training, advice, and guidance to new treatment specialists, students, and volunteers at the direction of the supervisor, as well as attending trainings in order to develop and maintain position skills. You will be expected to conduct individual counseling sessions; coordinate with social service agencies, courts, medical, and community resources to meet inmate needs; conduct assessments; and make recommendations on a variety of treatment related matters. This also involves developing and maintaining case history files, treatment plans, and related documentation with respect to drug and alcohol use or abuse as well as specified needs for drug and alcohol therapy programs. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ; or
- Two years of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 credits in the behavioral sciences; or
- One year of para-professional and one year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"; or
- One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a master's degree with major coursework in addictions science, psychology or social work; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of the training academy in Elizabethtown, PA.
