JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering in the College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar in environmental systems modeling, life-cycle assessment and/or techno-economic analysis of agricultural, forestry, and bioconversion systems at The Pennsylvania State University. The Postdoctoral Scholar will work in the laboratories of Dr. Juliana Vasco-Correa and Dr. Christine Costello on multiple funded research projects, performing computational modeling of crop and livestock production and forestry systems, and bioconversion of biomass from those systems into added-value bioproducts. Modelling approaches will include environmental fate and transport, hydrology, cropping system, biomass logistics, process modeling, techno-economic analysis, and/or life-cycle assessment. The postdoc will be working on a large team and will be expected to communicate across teams to integrate project-specific data into modeling. The postdoc will lead projects, collaborate with graduate students and researchers in other projects, and provide guidance and mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students. The postdoc is expected to publish research findings in international peer-reviewed journals, present research findings in conferences/meetings, and generate regular project update reports. The postdoc will receive mentorship and professional development opportunities tailored to their career goals.

This is a term position funded for one year from date of hire with a good possibility of re-funding.

Qualifications: The selected candidate will have PhD in Biological, Chemical, Agricultural, Biosystems, or Environmental Engineering; or other related disciplines. The successful candidate must have completed all PhD degree requirements by the appointment date. Experience in modeling is required and expertise in biomass logistics, techno-economic analysis and/or life-cycle assessment is strongly preferred. The candidate should be familiar with agricultural and/or forestry systems, bioconversion, bioprocessing, and/or bioproducts. The candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills and familiarity with agricultural or biobased systems, as well as a strong track record of peer-reviewed publication.
