What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a motivated R&D Computer Science Professional to join our high performing team focusing on system integration and test for Space Missions. In this role, you will have opportunities to collaborate in design, develop, test, and deploy advanced real-time decision support ground systems.

On any given day, the selected applicant may be called on to perform:



  • Collaborate with architects, system engineers, developers, technical leads, customers, and end users to collect and analyze requirements.

  • Design, develop, and deliver innovative technology solutions to achieve software system quality.

  • Generate automated tests to verify system functionality.

  • Participate in testing to assess accuracy and performance of the systems.

  • Support formal test activities at multiple levels from components to the enterprise system.

  • Propose and participate in research and development activities.

    Occasional travel may be required.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicants must be able to work onsite.



Salary Range:

$99,400 - $193,600

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:



  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q and SCI clearance which may require a polygraph test.



Qualifications We Desire:

The ideal R&D S&E, Computer Science candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:



  • Graduate degree in Computer Science or a highly related field with extensive programming experience.

  • Active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI.

  • Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (e.g., Agile).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in diverse teams, and a passion to improve and expand technical skills.

    Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

  • Python, C/C++, and/or Java.

  • Zephyr or a similar tool.

  • Confluence and JIRA.

  • CI/CD tools such as Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub, or Docker

  • Linux operating systems, associated shells such as BASH, TCSH, etc., common command-line tools such as GREP, and file structure navigation.



About Our Team:

Organization 06333 is responsible for system integration and test of large, complex satellite ground system which is being developed to support high consequence national security missions. Our systems are targeted for a range of applications and complexity, including remote and in-situ sensing systems, satellite communications and control, distributed computing and analysis, and real-time data collection, processing, exploitation and dissemination. Our team's deep domain and technical experience, coupled with an operational mindset builds distinct and extraordinary capabilities for our nation and the people who put their lives on the line to protect it.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
