Posting Summary |
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine Department within the New Jersey Medical School.
Under the direction of the principal investigator, the Post Doctoral Associate conducts highly specialized and technical research involving animal models of cardiovascular disease.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Works with primary isolated cells, cell/tissue culture, and transgenic mouse models of cardiovascular disease; conducting immunofluorescence microscopy, western blotting, and other molecular techniques.
- Designs, executes, and analyzes in vitro and in vivo studies of cardiovascular disease.
- Responsible for keeping detailed records of procedures and experiments in laboratory notebook. Compiles data, make necessary calculations, presents results at national conferences, and publish the results on high impact journals.
- Develops own research project(s) under the guidance of the PI.
- Instructs and trains students, technicians and laboratory assistants as required.
- Performs genetic matings to generate animal models of heart disease.
- Performs duties relating to animal care, including but not limited to breeding and maintenance of mouse colonies, and manipulation of animals according to approved experimental and institutional protocols (ex. injections, phlebotomy, surgery and euthanization).

- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cellular & Molecular Physiology, Pharmacology, or an equivalent field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
PHYSICAL DEMAND:
- This position involves prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment.
- Must perform complex procedures and demonstrate manual dexterity. Some stooping, reaching, climbing and bending.
- Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6 feet. Hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail.
- Vision capable of viewing gauges, computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including overtime on short notice and possible weekends and holidays to meet strict deadlines.
