Special Note
This is a full-time, overtime eligible position in on the Olympia campus of The Evergreen State College. This position is an "at-will" appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules.
Position Purpose
This position works with the Director of Admissions to create, conduct, and manage The Evergreen State College's student recruitment plan and efforts in collaboration with staff and faculty. The incumbent supervises Admission Counselors and provides leadership in the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies for the recruitment of new students to increase the number of applications and enrollees at Evergreen.
Nature and Scope
This position reports to the Director of Admissions and is responsible for assisting the Director in the development and implementation of comprehensive, innovative, and aggressive recruitment strategies and initiatives. The scope of responsibility includes strengthening college planning and communication with prospective students and their families resulting in increased outreach to and enrollment of students. The incumbent supervises and provides leadership, guidance, and training to Admissions recruiting staff on all aspects of recruitment. This position manages a recruitment territory, including making presentations to small and large groups within schools and community settings and represents the College at community events. This position serves as a member of or liaison representing recruitment efforts with different committees across campus.
Essential Functions

  • Assist the Director with all aspects of the development and implementation of strategic recruitment plans and efforts.
  • Assist in creating and achieving enrollment goals and objectives based on trend data and historical reporting.
  • Supervise, train, evaluate, motivate, and serve as a resource to Admission Counselors to enhance recruitment of students within their respective territories and ensure adherence to state, institutional, and industry operational practices and compliance.
  • Provide leadership and collaborate with faculty, staff, current students, and the Admissions staff to develop and sustain recruitment programs.
  • Initiate, track, and follow up with prospective students, including contact and respond to prospective students via email, letters, phone, and social media.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications staff in the creation of recruitment materials.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with prospective students, families, guidance counselors, educators, and others in assigned territories by providing advice and information on academics, fees, housing, student life, financial aid, and general college activities.
  • Prepare and conduct presentations to large and small groups.
  • Provide admissions counseling information and represent the college at high schools, community colleges, and community events.
  • Represent the College to cultural advocacy and non-governmental organizations.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with Evergreen staff, faculty, and current students to develop and maintain appropriate relationships with community groups in order to better understand the educational needs, aspirations, and barriers for prospective students.
  • Conduct research and remain current on student recruitment practices.
  • Provide regular reports on the number of inquiries, applications, and deposits of students.
  • Coordinate on and off-campus recruitment programs.
  • Analyze and use data for strategic planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties
As a member of the Admissions Office, this position may assist team members with all aspects of the admissions work load as necessary, including but are not limited to, leading regular information sessions and tours, participating in and planning campus events, and attending marketing meetings.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the marketing principles related to the recruitment of prospective students.
  • Ability to develop, evaluate, and execute strategies to increase recruitment and enrollment of students using data-driven best practices.
  • Excellent supervisory skills and abilities, including the ability to supervise and coach a diverse staff, successfully train and direct the work of others, evaluate performance, and address job performance issues.
  • Ability to collaborate with the campus community and external community groups.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the economic, social, and cultural context that influence access to higher education for historically underrepresented students.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal communication, public relations, presentation, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students and their families, high schools, community colleges, and community groups.
  • Advanced skill with standard office equipment, computers, and applications, including customer relationship management software, Microsoft 365, integrated databases, social media platforms, and website management tools.
  • Ability to provide senior level consultation and specialized analysis, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for high impact or mission critical projects or operational problems.
  • Ability to analyze and use data for strategic planning and reporting purposes.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to plan, manage, prioritize, and execute a variety of projects, events, and assignments concurrently and in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply all policies and procedures of the Admissions Office.
  • Ability to translate technical and/or complex policies and procedures to lay audiences.
  • Ability to interpret and comply with student regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of FERPA with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and train others to do so.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced, collaborative decision-making environment.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of full-time, professional level work experience in college admissions and new student recruitment.
  • Professional experience working effectively with diverse communities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Five years of professional experience in in a college or university registration and/or admissions office or related setting.
  • Supervisory experience, preferably in a student services setting.
  • Experience explaining scholarship and financial aid processes.
  • Experience assisting prospective students and families.
  • Experience with customer relationship management software designed to improve communication with prospective students.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Experience promoting interdisciplinary education.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per RCW 28B.112.080. The college will contact current and past employers to verify this information. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.
  • Must meet the eligible driver requirements: 1) Valid U.S. driver's license, 2) 18 years old or older, 3) Two or more years of fully licensed driving experience, and 4) Clean driving record with none of the following within the past 2 years: Any suspension/revocation of license for reckless driving, hit and run, leaving an accident scene, failure to appear, DUI or other vehicle-related felony; or for multiple traffic offenses (2 moving violations/infractions in 12 months/3 moving violations/infractions in 24 months) resulting in a Conditional Status driving record or subsequent suspension/revocation of license.
  • Must be able to work evening and weekend hours (on and off campus).
  • Must be able to move materials, such as catalogues, brochures, and display equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
