What does the job involve?

Summary: Inspects assemblies, sub-assemblies and final assemblies for defects by use of hydro or gas equipment, with instruction from supervision or higher-grade level pressure test operators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:



  • Works from blueprints, drawings, specifications, planning sheets and quality control standards.
  • Installs assemblies in test fixtures or test closures.
  • Analyzes - by visual examination - the assemblies and sub-assemblies under pressure for the presence or absence of leaks and deformation.
  • Stamps or otherwise approves acceptable parts and rejects those which are unacceptable. Production stamp.
  • Perform re-inspection and other associated operations in connection with the work described.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
  • Other duties with the work as assigned.


In addition to the above, Testers are to maintain an organized, clean and safe work area using safety standards and expectations while adhering to all quality practices. Education and/or Experience:



  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Skills:



  • Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Other Abilities: Must have familiarity with pressure production testing techniques and be able to read and record data from test gauges. When production pressure test work is not available, will perform such work as Metal Fitter "C".


Tools used:



  • Hand tools, pumps and test tanks.


Materials used:



  • Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys in the form of machined and formed parts.
