SUMMARY
Stands watch. Handles lines, supplies, tools and materials. Performs housekeeping and maintenance. Must be familiar with the vessel's layout. Employees may be required to work non-regular workdays and shifts, as well as work and travel out of the area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following, additional duties may be assigned:
- Performs duties and carries responsibilities, as outlined in the hopper Safety Management System, including all procedures listed for the position in SMS 6.3-1 Positions and procedures cross reference.
- Must be familiar with the Safety Management System (SMS) and follow procedures.
- Stands bridge watch as a lookout and helmsman at sea. Steer the ship and comply with helm orders. Contributes to monitoring and controlling a safe watch.
- Handles lines during berthing, anchoring and other mooring operations; stows lines and rigging. Operates deck machinery and equipment, including cranes.
- Performs general housekeeping and vessel upkeep. Keeps work areas on deck and common areas clean and orderly. Washes down and cleans surfaces, removes debris, collects trash, and paints.
- Transports materials/supplies from the deck to storage areas. Moves materials/tools to and from work areas.
- Performs tasks outlined in the Preventive Maintenance and Inspection (PMI) program.
- Operates life-saving and emergency equipment. Performs duties required on the Emergency Station Bill for both drills and actual emergencies, including fire, flooding, man overboard, abandon ship, medical, and spill response.
- Participates in crew safety meetings and contributes to the safety of personnel and ship.
- Applies precautions to prevent pollution of the marine environment.
- Complies with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
- Maintains a high standard of ethical behavior, encourages ethical behavior in others, supports ethical decisions and actively seeks appropriate resolutions to potential ethical conflicts.
- Maintains a safe working environment: Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment.

EDUCATION, SKILLS and/or EXPERIENCE
As per STCW Section A-II/4 and Section A-II/5.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- USCG Merchant Mariner Credential as an Able Seaman (AB), STCW Section A-II/4 and Section A-II/5.
- Valid picture identification required.
- Position will require valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee must be able to meet the physical requirements of this position, including:
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on marine vessels in water
- Able to safely execute duties in and around heavy equipment/large machinery in marine dredging and marine construction job sites
- Able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.)
