Summary of Job Duties:The dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Nursing and reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The School of Nursing offers multiple pathways for the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Master of Science in Nursing.

The dean works collaboratively with faculty to promote excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship, as well as manages budgets, oversees scheduling of classes and recruitment of students, evaluates faculty annually and makes recommendations for retention, promotion, and tenure. The dean is responsible for ensuring the unit's strategic plan aligns with the University's strategic plan, mission, and vision. The dean writes reports related to accreditation, state-required approvals, outcomes-based assessment, and program review. The dean provides leadership for promoting and maintaining standards established by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and other accrediting agencies that affect the School of Nursing's academic and professional programs. The dean provides oversight of the preparation of innovative academic program plans for the academic unit, as well as the revision of existing programs, as necessary, for viability and to promote growth of existing partnerships. The dean cultivates collegial and effective working relationships with faculty, assistant/associate deans, the administration, and staff in all academic and non-academic areas. The dean works with program directors in the academic unit to encourage grant applications by faculty members in the academic unit for outside funding for research and other special projects. The dean is responsible for developing and maintaining professional relationships by communicating within the University, the community, with area hospitals, with other health care providers, and professional organizations deemed essential to the School of Nursing's programs and mission. The dean serves on the University's Academic Council, as chairperson for the Faculty Association, and as an ex officio member of all the School of Nursing committees. The dean appoints members of the School of Nursing standing and ad hoc committees. The dean also teaches six hours per academic year and fulfills additional responsibilities as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs or Chancellor. Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Nursing is preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates holding a doctoral degree with an MSN in Nursing Education and to candidates holding an MSN in Nursing Education pursuing a Ph.D. Administrative experience in an academic department, and a sustained record of excellence in teaching, research, and scholarly work is required. Current unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in Arkansas or a compact agreement state is required. The dean is expected to hold certification as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE). Applicants without a CNE must agree to obtain certification within one year of hire.
