The Sierra Vista Hospital location, a 171-bed psychiatric care facility located in south Sacramento, is a full-service mental health facility and a center of support for patients and their families. Since 1986, we have offered our clinical expertise to those suffering from emotional, behavioral and addiction problems.

The Social Services Manager provides administrative leadership and clinical direction and oversight to Intake, unit programming, DC planning and UM operations. The manager ensures appropriate psychosocial treatment programs and services that meet the needs of the patients are in compliance with regulatory agencies and the facility's performance objectives. Responsibilities include managing the SVCSU social services department/s, including intake, UM, therapy and case management and the services offered through the department/s, maintaining the department schedule, providing training and oversight to staff, support with identified needs, provide guidance regarding complex patient planning and potential risk factors, collaborate with other mental health providers to assist with developing and sustaining positive working relationships. Fulfill the tasks of and complete tasks as necessary in the absence of other social workers. Review and update policies as needed.


Qualifications

Education:

Master's Level Graduate of an accredited school of social work or counseling program.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in psychiatric/mental health field.

License:

  • California Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Marriage Family Therapist preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • A strong knowledge of TJC, CMS, OSHA regulations, and patient rights standards and all other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities. CPR certification and successful completion of the hospital's designated behavioral and physical management training program, including the appropriate use of seclusion and restraint required within the first 90 days of employment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Department Management

  • Provides training for staff, develops and maintains training materials for all areas of responsibility in Social services, including Intake, Utilization Management, Appeals, Case Management, including discharge planning and therapeutic programming.
  • Facilitates new hire orientation as needed.
  • Maintains the department schedule will meet the needs and demands of the patient population.
  • Solicits feedback in order to improve processes, staffing, and scheduling effectiveness.
  • In coordination with HR, maintains compliance for staff certifications in CPR, CPI, and hospital mandated certifications.
  • Completes staff performance evaluations.
  • Provides counseling, coaching, and disciplinary actions to staff.
  • Attends and facilitates interviews for prospective staff as needed.
  • Leads staff meetings as needed. Develops staff agenda, completes meeting minutes.
  • Completes assigned audits on a monthly basis and reports on outcomes.
  • Assists in implementing performance improvement plans, plans of correction, and corporate initiatives as needed.
  • Participates in program planning and development to provide therapeutic services to all patients.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in role assignments and completes additional duties as needed.
