Minimum Qualifications
Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, or a related field, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in maintaining accurate records.
  • Experience with microbial culture techniques and genetic modifications, experience with basic molecular biology techniques, and/or prior experience in a research laboratory setting.


Position Summary
The VanDrisse at the University of Georgia is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support research in microbial genetics, molecular biology, and metabolic engineering. The technician will assist in mutant generation and analysis, strain characterization, and phenotypic analysis, as well as contribute to general laboratory organization and inventory management. This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic research environment and contribute to multiple ongoing projects.

Perform molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, and genetic modifications, generate and analyze microbial mutants to investigate gene function, assist with data collection and analysis, including growth assays and metabolite quantification.

Maintain and organize laboratory strains, reagents, and experimental records, carry out ordering of lab supplies and materials, organize laboratory budgets, manage laboratory physical inventory, participate in general lab maintenance, including equipment upkeep and safety compliance, assist in cleaning and organizing a legacy laboratory space in preparation for relocation.
