Job Description
SECURITY OFFICER, UNARMED - SCALE HOUSE OPERATOR LOCATION: TORRANCE REFINERY PAY RATE: $18.54 PER HOUR FULL TIME - AFTERNOON, EVENING & OVERNIGHT SHIFT
The Scale House Operator is responsible for weighing incoming and outgoing vehicles, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the smooth operation of the scale house. This role involves monitoring vehicles and goods, verifying proper documentation, and interacting with drivers and other staff to ensure compliance with regulations and company procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Vehicle Weighing: Accurately weigh trucks and trailers using the facility's scale to determine the weight of the load.
- Documentation Management: Maintain records of all transactions, including weight tickets, vehicle identification, driver information, and other relevant details.
- Customer Service: Greet and assist drivers as they arrive, providing clear instructions for weighing and verifying all necessary paperwork (e.g., bills of lading, manifests).
- Data Entry: Input and update weight data and related information into the system, ensuring accuracy and timely updates.
- Compliance: Ensure that all weights, loads, and operations comply with safety, environmental, and legal standards. Alert supervisors of any discrepancies or violations.
- Communication: Coordinate with drivers, truck dispatchers, and other departments to resolve any issues or questions regarding loads, weights, or documentation.
- System Maintenance: Ensure the scale equipment is operating correctly and report any issues to maintenance or supervisors for resolution.
- Quality Control: Conduct routine checks of the scale to ensure accurate measurements. Troubleshoot any discrepancies in weight readings or system malfunctions.
- Safety: Maintain a safe working environment by following all safety procedures and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Record Keeping: Maintain organized files for easy retrieval of scale tickets and documentation for audits and reporting purposes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform security patrols of hospital grounds on foot or in vehicle; document detailed observations of unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards
- Assist hospital staff with de-escalation of situations involving patients; restrain combative individuals as necessary (within company and customer guidelines)
- Transport patients to the morgue, as needed
- Assist in escorting patients from helicopter pad (high elevation) to the emergency room
- Assist with evacuations during fires, medical emergencies, and natural disasters
- Sound alarms or call police or fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons
- Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles
- Permit authorized persons to enter property and monitor entrances and exits; ensure only authorized individuals enter and exit the hospital, and that no contraband or hospital items are brought in or out
- Observe departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensures that authorized removal of property is conducted within appropriate client requirements
- Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities; maintain written logs as required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Standard working hours with potential for extended hours during peak times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Prior experience in scale house operations, customer service, or in a logistics/transportation environment preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of computer systems, including data entry and spreadsheet use.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, operate a computer or scale equipment, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent, or 5 years of verifiable experience
