Job Summary:

The Wisconsin Union is looking for a food service professional to join our Sett Pub and Memorial Union retail teams. During the Academic year this position is located at the Sett Pub in Union South. During the Summer months this position will transfer to the Memorial Union. As an Assistant Manager, you'll work alongside other professionals and students, utilizing your skills and talent to lead a high-quality food operation for the UW Madison community. The person in this role will oversee all aspects of full service operations. This role will also supervise full and part time staff including student supervisors and student employees. Strong leadership and customer service skills are required to be successful.


Responsibilities:
Oversees daily food service operations including staff management and/or customer issue resolution in environments such as dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve food service goals. This individual identifies work unit needs and contributes to the development of unit processes and procedures.

  • 20% Develops, implements and oversees workflow components, and assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff
  • 5% Selects, develops, implements and schedules logistics and menus for daily and catering operations
  • 45% Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
  • 20% Assists with unit budget monitoring, management of inventory levels, and staff training
  • 10% Monitors adherence to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures, identifies needs and makes recommendations for improvement to leadership


Tasks:

  • Plans and executes Badger Bash, Welcome Week, and other special events throughout the year

Qualifications:

Required:
* 1 year of supervisory experience in a full-service food operation- restaurant or catering
* 1 year of experience working in an establishment serving alcohol
Preferred:
*Supervision and oversight of operations with direct supervision of two or more managers
*Experience leading teams of 20+ employees
*Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills


License/Certification:

Required
ServSafe Certification
Produce or attain within 6 months of hire

Required
Valid Bartender License
Produce or attain within 6 months of hire


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Academic year schedule: Sun., Mon., 2 pm - 11 pm; Tues., 11 am - 8 pm; Wed., Thurs., Off; Fri., 2 pm - 11 pm; Sat., 9 am - 6 pm. Summer schedule - MU Terrace: works a combination of days, nights, and weekends with Wed - Thurs. off. This is the anticipated scheduled and may change based on business needs. 45 hours per week is expected.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.
