HJF is seeking a Scientist I to develop and conduct research projects. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products, and problems. Develops new technologies and protocols.

This position will be located at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in support of the Military Traumatic Brain Injury Institute (MTBI2). MTBI2 is a federal military traumatic brain injury (TBI) research program organized as a partnership between the Uniformed Services University and the National Institutes of Health. MTBI2 supports a wide range of research from pre-clinical models to investigational projects and clinical trials research on TBI and its comorbidities. The incumbent will be responsible for processing and interpreting functional neuroimaging data for research projects under Dr. Louis French, at the NICoE.

Note: This position requires U.S. Citizenship in order to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret Clearance.


Responsibilities

  • Processes and interprets experimental data. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols.
  • Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.
  • Coordinates and contributes to new grant and funding applications.
  • Trains and supervises laboratory technicians, as needed.
  • Prepares written reports and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctorate Degree required.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years experience required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years' experience with MEG and/or EEG data recordings required
  • Experience with MEG and/or EEG data processing and analysis using ICA and source reconstruction
  • Experience with MEG data acquisition using Neuromag system and EEG data acquisition using an EEG cap would be a plus, but not required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others.
  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain and Maintain a T3 Secret Clearance.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $73,800-$99,500. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
