Job Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Philanthropy, the Director will lead the growing and vibrant annual giving program, developing and overseeing multi-channel innovative solicitations for alums, parents and other strategic constituencies. This position requires superb interpersonal and communication skills, advanced strategic thinking, and project management expertise. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing direct-response fundraising campaigns, and as an influencer and advocate for growing a culture of philanthropy. The Director will have a keen appreciation for the foundation of annual giving as the enabling component of successful major gift and gift planning programs and will deeply enjoy developing, enhancing, and creating new ways to leverage giving as a form of engagement. The Director will also leverage data analysis and look for creative ways to integrate data with purposeful solicitations and strategic marketing.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership Annual Giving and The Scripps Fund Strategy Development

  • Plan, implement, and promote the College's comprehensive annual fundraising strategy that supports Scripps College's Strategic Plan and the ERIA Strategic Plan.
    • Increase revenue and donors to The Scripps Fund by developing strategy and producing solicitations and communications to alums, parents, and friends.
    • Partner with the Prospect Development Manager to strengthen leadership annual giving fundraising ($2,000-$24,999 annual giving), both personal and mass outreach, to increase unrestricted revenue to The Scripps Fund and expand the pipeline to major and planned gifts.
    • Hold a leadership annual giving portfolio and responsible for the direct solicitation of gifts from alums, parents, and friends.
    • Partner with Marketing and Communication to develop content strategy for solicitations across direct mail, email, text, video, social, and web. Manage production of appeals and develops timelines tracking deliverables and deployment of pieces.
  • Project manager and creative committee lead for signature digital fundraising campaigns like Day of Giving and Giving Tuesday.
  • Manages student philanthropy and reunion fundraising programs.
  • Studies best practices in annual giving and works with members of the division to implement these strategies.
  • Convene and serve as a chair for various campus committees related to annual giving, partnering with cross-functional teams on campus.
  • Works with frontline fundraisers and other members of the ERIA team to appropriately identity and solicit additional Scripps Fund gifts.
  • Partners with Advancement Services team to ensure accurate and complete development database records and smooth gift processing business practices.
  • Recruit, train, develop volunteers to assist with The Scripps Fund program in collaboration with the Institutional Engagement team.
  • Collaborates with philanthropy team management group to develop strategic fundraising priorities, enhance team business practices, and create team cohesion.

Operations and Analysis

  • Maintains Scripps Fund budget and tracks all expenditures for the program to measure return on investment.
  • Generates financial and analytical reports for the Associate Vice President of Philanthropy on status of The Scripps Fund and program as well as specific funds, appeals and initiatives.
  • Develops goals and metrics to measure outcomes for use in reporting.
  • Assists Associate Vice President with budget planning and development by providing historical data and future projections.
  • Understands the College's current database and database strategy.
  • Partners with vendors to leverage best practices in using key fundraising software. Collaborate with other ERIA team-members to develop business practices around these applications.
  • Performs other related duties and other special projects as priorities shift.
  • Active support for the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential function will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.Must be efficient in prioritizing work on simultaneous projects and delegating tasks as required for execution.
  • Competence in database utilization and a variety of software programs used to track solicitation efforts and results. Programs include: Microsoft Office Suite, MailChimp, Zoom, Asana, Raiser's Edge NXT, Blackbaud Guided Fundraising, and GiveCampus.
  • Must take initiative and demonstrate out-of-the box creativity.
  • Superior ability to compose high-quality written communications, correspondence, reports, and other documents with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills to collaborate effectively with multiple diverse constituencies, including campus partners and volunteers.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable. Ability to work well in high pressure/touch customer service situations and work well under deadlines and balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices in higher-education advancement or other non-profits preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with social media strategy and trends.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities.

Minimumthree years of experience in non-profit fundraising, secondary or higher education development, and/or a related field development experience, including annual campaigns is required.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:

This is a regular status, full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt position.

The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Must be available to work nights and weekends. Regular travel for multiple days is a requirement of the position.

Salary range: $90,000-$98,000 annualized. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, andtraining.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises Leadership Annual Giving Officer and Coordinator, Scripps Fund and oversees the recruitment, hiring and training of student Scripps Fund callers.
