At Azure Core MCIS (Microsoft Capacity Infrastructure Services) Decommission, we play a critical role in maintaining the health and modernization of Azure's global server fleet. By safely, efficiently, and intelligently decommissioning legacy servers, we ensure Microsoft's cloud continues to deliver top-tier performance and reliability. Our work involves close collaboration with core backend and infrastructure teams to transition workloads to newer, more efficient hardware. We partner with backend service teams to safely release control of outdated hardware and work alongside datacenter teams to ensure compliant removal from facilities. This process is vital, impactful, and deeply rewarding as we enable Azure to evolve and thrive in a rapidly advancing world.As a Senior Software Engineer in MCIS, you will drive the automation of Azure datacenter processes, enabling safe and efficient workload migration, logical and physical transitions, and intelligent planning and validation. Your role will involve large-scale orchestration, collaborating with various components and partnering teams to streamline workflows. By optimizing costs (COGS) and enhancing operational efficiency, you'll directly contribute to maximizing the revenue potential of Azure's cloud services. ResponsibilitiesCollaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale. |
