The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 2- (Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne, Talbot and Caroline Counties) is currently recruiting for an Office Engineer (Transportation Engineering Technician III) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. All eligible candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications by the closing date. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

Nature of Work:

This position is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and report to the Assistant District Engineer (ADE)-Construction on all administrative, technical, contractual, and cost control issues relating to a $20+million (current) construction contact program for highways, bridges, and facilities. This position also functions as a direct assistant to the ADE Construction and serves as a liaison between the District Engineer, Area Engineers, Project Engineers, consultant agencies, government officials, and the general public.

Qualifications

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in professional engineering.

Selective Qualification: One (1) year of the required experience must have involved project management related to the construction of highway and/or bridge projects.

Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability).

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:

* Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
* Excellent organizational skills
* Ability to interpret contract documents such as plans and specifications and apply policies and procedures
* Ability to review and develop engineering design related to maintenance of traffic, construction sequencing/staging, and utility impacts/relocations
* Ability to develop and review construction schedules
* Working knowledge of engineering guidelines and standards
* Ability to review construction change orders and claims and provide recommendations on resolution
* Experience in inspection of transportation projects

Notes:
1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
2. Possession of a master's Degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.





Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must posses a driver's license valid in the state of Maryland.
