How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior Accountant you will perform daily general ledger activities and monthly closing procedures including standard calculations, journal entries, account analysis, reconciliations and tax reporting. You will assist in the corporate budget process as well as ad hoc projects driven by data analysis, analytics, presentation and reporting. In addition, you will engage regularly with various Corporate Managers, Business Unit Staff, and function leads as well as external auditors, consultants and corporate customers.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. General Accounting
  • Accounting for several Corporate managed entities, in various currencies- includes preparation of journal entries, account analysis, reconciliations, recording tax provisions and audit support.
  • Perform monthly general ledger accounting (accounts receivable, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, equity) including journal entries, account analysis, reconciliations and audit support.
  • Responsible for all third-party billings and collections, including account reconciliations. Contacts customers and works to resolve past due balances.
  • Assist in risk reserve analysis and reporting surrounding healthcare accruals, risk reserves (i.e. workers compensation, product and general liability, other), environmental, pension and long-term disability.
  • Journal Entry Completeness - SAP data analysis to validate that all journal entries were properly booked and properly reviewed and approved prior to each month end close.
  • Perform various department requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley testing, providing audit documentation to external auditors and backup support to various department functions.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives. Assists in ad hoc projects as needed providing data analysis, presentation and reporting.
  1. Budget Administration:
  • Assist in annual corporate budget process as well as corporate allocations to the business units.
  • Assist corporate functional leads with monthly tracking of departmental expenses versus budget.

3. Financial Reporting:

  • Lead statutory reporting requirements for select Corporate managed entities.
  • Support corporate consolidation process, which includes use of OneStream Financial Software to upload trial balances, and monitor reporting between corporate and business units, clearing any out of balances, also requires analysis of cash flow variances and any other significant fluctuations. Works directly with the business units, corporate consolidation and SEC reporting teams.

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in general ledger accounting
  • Operational Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Transactional Accounting
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Word, and Excel
  • Experience with SAP and OneStream ERP Systems

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
