LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM, DAVIDSON COUNTY

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and five years of experience, including two years of supervisory experience in one or a combination of the following: professional museum or historic site work; paraprofessional museum work; professional experience in the instruction or research in education, art, history, or museum science; professional library experience; or professional experience in fundraising or promotional marketing activities; or related field.

Substitution of Graduate Education for Experience: Graduate coursework credit received from an accredited college or university in education, art, history, museum science, library science, anthropology, industrial design, architecture, business administration, advertising/marketing or related field may substitute for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of three years, there being no substitution for the required supervisory experience (e.g., 36 graduate quarter hours in one or a combination of the above listed fields may be substituted for one year of the required experience).

Necessary Special Qualifications: Complete a background clearance application which includes releasing all records involving any criminal history and a valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

Ability to lift and move objects more than 50 pounds, preferred.

Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment for fabrication, preferred.

Ability to comprehend and interpret design schematics and drawings, preferred.

Overview

Under direct supervision, the Museum Assistant Chief per Specialty is responsible for the professional management of a designated museum division. An employee in this class will assist in developing procedures, programming, administration, evaluating activities and services within that division. This class differs from the Museum Director as the latter has full responsibility of the division management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development, management, strategic initiatives, and evaluation of a specific museum division.
  • Responsible for implementing goals, as defined by agency leadership, and meeting established deadlines for the projects under their specific division.
  • Responsible for building teams, assigning roles, and coordinating with other museum departments to achieve project completion.
  • Responsible for developing and reporting the metrics of the division to assist in the evaluation of successful outcomes and maintains divisional records per state policy.
  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge through professional development, research, communication, and self-directed learning.
  • May perform supervisory duties including hiring, training, evaluations, developing direct reports, performance coaching, and other administrative functions in compliance with guidelines provided by the Tennessee Department of Human Resources.

TN Driver Standards
