Controller Hybrid from Reston, VA POSITION SUMMARY: As the Controller, you will lead the Accounting Department in managing the general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, and cost accounting for SES Space & Defense. Your role is crucial in supporting the long-term objectives of our two legal entities.You will bring your technical expertise and leadership to the team, guiding them in financial accounting, cost accounting, and compliance with GAAP, IFRS, FAR, and CAS. You will oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of our accounting processes, systems, and practices. We are looking for someone who is ready to roll up their sleeves and work closely with the team to tackle challenges. Flexibility and dedication are key, as you will need to work extended hours to meet both internal and SES Corporate deadlines. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the Accounting Department
- Manages and directs all accounting functions to include general ledger accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, payroll/timekeeping, accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Serves as the focal point for all accounting, financial and cost accounting activities to include monthly close, project setup and financial reporting (e.g., income statements, balance sheets, financial results)
- Must have a comprehensive understanding of cash flow to include weekly cash flow forecasting; Improve cash flow by optimizing billing and cash collection processes
- Must have strong Costpoint hands-on knowledge to enable troubleshooting of items such as cost pool setup, revenue calculations, billing calculations, etc.
- Acts as the point of contact with internal and external auditors; will provide hands-on support of External Financial Statement Audits and DCAA audits including incurred cost submission schedule preparation and updates to Disclosure Statement as needed
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with and consistent application of all relevant accounting and regulatory rules, regulations and Company policies
- Maintain and ensure compliance with finance and accounting processes, policies and procedures. Responsible for periodic reviews of policies and procedures and making any necessary updates
- Responsible for continuously assessing current accounting operations to identify and implement efficiencies
- Responsible for Accounting Department supervision, including but not limited to, hiring, training, evaluating, succession planning, counseling and disciplining of employees
- Responsible for ensuring Accounting Department is appropriately organized to support business needs
- Must have considerable experience and proven success in process streamlining to gain efficiencies within the Accounting Department operations
- Working knowledge or willing to learn SAP/BPC for the purpose of loading results into the tool or SES consolidation purposes to ensure SES Corporate deadlines are met
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive work experience to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of accounting, financial, and cost estimating theory, practices, and procedures
- Minimum of 7 years of recent and relevant U.S. Government contracting industry experience
- Minimum of 5 years hands-on Costpoint and Deltek Time Collection experience - Must possess strong working knowledge in all Costpoint modules - Accounting, Projects, Billing, People and Material
- Significant GAAP expertise and thorough understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards
- SOX Compliance and Internal Controls:Experience with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) compliance and internal controls is crucial
- Extensive understanding of indirect cost pool/rate structures.
- Strong analytical skills: ability to analyze and interpret financial data, solve complex accounting problems and use analytical tools and methodologies for cost/profitability analysis.
- Strong management, interpersonal and communication skills; Professional conduct at all times, at all levels
- Strong work ethic - must be able to prioritize and manage multiple, critical projects simultaneously; must be able to work extended hours to meet monthly internal and corporate deadlines
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills; must be able to quickly manipulate large amounts of data

- Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA)
- Deltek CostPoint 8.2 knowledge
- Report and Analytics, formerly Cognos knowledge
- SAP/BPC (Business Planning and Consolidation) knowledge

The base salary range for this full-time position is $160,000.00 - $185,000.00 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
