Job Summary The Elefant lab focuses on understanding neuroepigenetic mechanisms underlying cognitive function and neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease. We are seeking a highly driven and self-motivated Research Associate to join our cohesive research team to assist us in conducting exciting experiments that involve drug discovery, bioinformatics, functional genomics, molecular biology, Drosophila genetics, biochemistry, and confocal microscopy.
This is a grant-funded position lasting one year but able to be extended an additional 2 year. This position will start on June 1 or later. Essential Functions
- Oversee the daily running of our laboratory, including placing orders, monitoring, and maintaining inventory and purchases, and preparing lab reagents.
- Maintain Drosophila stocks and aid in generating and characterizing novel transgenic Drosophila lines.
- Conduct research in the field of drug discovery using state-of-the-art technology.
- Follow through all aspects of our lab's workflows, including developing new methodologies for technologies, and implementing and troubleshooting protocols.
- Maintain clear experimental records according to the Department's format.
- Independently perform advanced molecular, biochemistry and Drosophila behavioral experimental procedures including chromatin immunoprecipitations, qPCR, western blotting, confocal microscopy and behavioral learning and memory assays .
- Formulate and perform lab experiments, analyze results, interpret methodology, report data, and maintain appropriate protocol books and lab notebook, assist in development and troubleshooting of new techniques and ideas.
- Train and mentor undergraduate research students.
- Present and discuss work at weekly lab meetings and national conferences.
- Assist in writing of grants, journal articles, poster, and verbal presentations for authorship if desired; train for a Ph.D. degree if desired.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Biology or science based concentration, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Ability to travel to national conferences as needed.

Additional Information This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $41,120 - $61,680 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
