Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Accountant to support daily accounting functions including payroll processing for transmittal to ADP Workforce Now payroll service and assisting with month end close. This is a full-time position.



Responsibilities

    Manage weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly multi-state payroll process.
  • Ensure employees are paid in compliance with state laws including SCA (Service Contract Act) and company policy.
  • Analyze compensation related data and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of earnings.
  • Resolve complex payroll issues, respond to inquiries and assist staff in resolving payroll/accounting issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring all payroll updates are completed in the payroll system and ADP for all employee changes such as new hires, garnishments, terminations, resignations, leave of absences, wage rate, address, name and other status changes are accurate and timely.
  • Ensure that Vacation/PTO/Sick is accrued, taken, and paid in compliance with company policy and applicable state and national wage and hour laws.
  • Work closely with Human Resource team on all payroll related issues.
  • Prepare and enter various month-end journal entries.
  • Review the general ledger monthly to ensure the accuracy of posting.
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary (W-2, W-2c, etc.).
  • Perform and/or assist with monthly, quarterly and annual accounting and closing activities including reconciliations and annual audit: resource-gathering, and recommended follow-through.
  • Inform the Controller of relevant issues regarding financial controls, accounting and reporting.


Qualifications

3+ years experience in accounting operations including payroll. Bachelor's degree in a related field. Knowledge of US GAAP and an understanding of proper taxation of employer paid benefits. Experience working for a Federal Government contractor. Experience with the Service Contract Act (SCA) is preferred. Experience with ADP Workforce Now is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and proficiency with Excel. Able to work independently and multi-task under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Able to prioritize work load, multi-task and consistently meet deadlines through constantly changing tasks and demands. Must be customer service oriented with the ability to meet internal client expectations and process payroll in a very time sensitive manner. Must be a US citizen.
