Principal, Global Indirect Tax

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Principal, Global Indirect Tax position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

Job Summary:

The Global Indirect Tax Principal will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's indirect tax obligations within domestic and international jurisdictions. This role involves developing and implementing tax strategies, ensuring compliance with local tax laws and regulations, and minimizing the company's tax liabilities. The Principal will provide expert advice and guidance on complex indirect tax matters across multiple business units and collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting and payments.

Primary Responsibilities:


  1. Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of global business unit operations, financial filings, and intercompany relationships. This will involve working closely with the finance, legal, and technology teams to implement changes as they are identified.
  2. Designs, executes, and evaluates existing indirect tax filings, legal structure set up and requirement filings for all Fike's business units.
  3. Identifies current gaps, areas for improvement and efficiency, and implements approved plans for compliance.
  4. Assists with designing indirect tax compliance for all new entities, domestic and foreign, including redefining product structures, nexus review, and filing registrations.
  5. Provides insight and advice to business partners on current foreign entity structures and VAT/GST implications.
  6. Supports reporting requests from external tax engagements for data analysis as projects are assigned.
  7. Works with other departments to ensure adherence to tax policies. Establish controls over new items set-up, tax code assignment, and address maintenance.
  8. Supports new and existing business registrations, including tax administration registrations, and coordinates with the legal team to ensure contractor permits and licenses are in place when required.
  9. Supports transfer pricing analysis and annual reporting to ensure intercompany net profit margins can be justified to international tax authorities and are compliant with OECD locations.
  10. Serves as a subject matter expert on state tax regulations related to tax exemptions.
  11. Acts as primary support for all state tax audits, providing all requested reporting and documentation.
  12. Analyzes transactional data to identify nexus issues, tax code issues or inefficiencies and develop resolution strategies.
  13. Manages monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns and payments through the company's tax software.
  14. Reconciles data between the company's ERP system and the company's tax software to ensure completeness and accuracy of returns.
  15. Coordinates with external tax partners on providing information for direct tax filings. Coordinate payment activity for all fillings.
  16. Coordinates with external partners to ensure Annual Reports are filed.
  17. Provides guidance and support to internal stakeholders on tax matters.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the environment is general office work and the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit and use hands. Some travel domestically and internationally, as required.

Job Qualifications:

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance and relevant specialized tax education. Minimum of seven years progressive work experience in indirect tax operations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to deal effectively with a variety of corporate functional organizations, professional disciplines and customers. Proficiency in spreadsheet, word processing software applications, and Google Suite.

PREFERRED: MBA. CPA Certification. International experience. Experience working in a manufacturing environment. Experience related to credit & collections or related business processes. Experience with both PC and ERP database systems. Prior supervisory/leadership experience.
