GIS Intern

Position Overview:

The GIS Intern will support our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team. The intern will assist in collecting, analyzing, and managing spatial data, as well as creating maps and reports to support various projects. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in GIS applications, software, and real-world spatial analysis.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist in collecting, organizing, and maintaining spatial data.
• Create and edit maps, reports, and visualizations using GIS software
• Perform geospatial analysis and data processing to support project needs.
• Research and compile geographic information from various sources, including satellite imagery, surveys, and databases.
• Support GIS data entry, database management, and quality control.
• Collaborate with team members on GIS-related tasks and project development.
• Assist in automating workflows using Python, SQL, or other scripting languages (if applicable).
• Participate in field data collection using GPS and mobile GIS applications.
• Provide general support to GIS professionals and other departments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Students currently pursuing a degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of GIS concepts and software (ArcPro).
• Experience with spatial data formats, coordinate systems, and data visualization.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Communication and presentation skills.

Internship Basics:

• Hiring for summer, fall and spring semesters
• Part-time hourly paid program
• Hours are flexible and determined by class schedule. Schedule will be determined between a supervisor and intern based by office, projects and personal needs
