A Brief Overview Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Licensing, this role will play essential roles in supporting implementation of overall strategies in commercializing CHOP intellectual properties (IP).
The responsibilities may include daily management of assigned invention disclosure cases, assisting with all activities in enhancing visibility of the office and its services to the CHOP community, participating in external outreach and marketing activities of CHOP innovations to attract potential industry licensing partners and investors, and leading or participating in negotiation of agreements involving intellectual property licensing.
Depending on the office's needs and under the supervision of a senior member(s) of the licensing team, this position may also serve as interface between the OTT and CHOP's Research Communications group and Research Creative Services team to create and implement an overall messaging strategy for the office.
What you will do
- Assess inventions and technologies for their scientific merit, commercial feasibility, and viability in intellectual property protection
- Work independently and/or closely with leadership to develop and implement general and technology specific marketing communication and IP commercialization strategies
- Create non-confidential technology summaries, coordinate production of marketing materials, including media contents, and distribute content via OTT website and other marketing/communication media platforms
- Research market and competitive landscapes for CHOP IP portfolio-market fit and desired commercialization pathway
- Identify potential licensees for CHOP technologies and conduct targeted marketing campaigns
- Manage and engage external industry contacts (develop and maintain a marketing contact database)
- Build and maintain relationships with CHOP constituents, potential licensing partners, and external stakeholders
- Participate in ongoing education sessions for investigators, clinicians, and research staff
- Draft or assist drafting inter-institutional agreement, license and option agreement.
Education Qualifications
- Master's Degree in a life sciences, physical science, business or related field Required
- Doctorate in a biological or health science field Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least one (1) year of intellectual property licensing or commercialization experience Required and
- At least one (1) year of marketing materials development experience Preferred
- At least one (1) year of technology transfer and/or business development experience Preferred
- At least three (3) years of intellectual property licensing or commercialization experience including invention/technology evaluation art search, and market analysis Preferred
- At least three (3) years of marketing materials development experience in a life science, pediatric medicine, or healthcare related field Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Intermediate knowledge of business practices related to intellectual property protection and commercialization
- Intermediate knowledge of Federal laws and regulations applicable to intellectual property and federal grants
- Intermediate knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices related to federally funded research activities and intellectual property
- Familiarity with marketing, negotiating, intellectual property law, and agreement drafting
- Familiarity with academic medical research businesses
- Advanced proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office) including database software
