About The Position

The Electrical Distribution - Cost Estimating Engineer is primarily responsible for developing high-quality preliminary and detailed cost estimates for the design activities associated with the safe and reliable development of the electric distribution system as it pertains to infrastructure additions, upgrades, and relocations, new business, and construction maintenance activities. This position also ensures compliance with company budget and forecasting systems, business process requirements, and project oversight policies. This position will report to the Manager, Cost Estimating, Project Management Office.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development of timely and accurate project cost and contingency estimates, performing cost estimate accuracy reviews upon project completion; maintain and enhance estimating tool databases, and assure adherence to company standards, procedures, and policies.
  • Support establishing and executing a process that aligns Ameren Missouri Customer Operations on development and baseline of project scope, which includes review and buyoff from multiple, cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Work closely with distribution planning, operating divisions, and engineering design teams to coordinate project costs with the approved budget; develop preliminary and detailed project cost forecasts and budgets; assist with project justification and scope development; lead and participate in financial process improvements and projects; and provide contingency analysis in support of risk register activities.
  • Provide assistance to and support project managers/engineers with design reviews during cost estimate development.
  • Support project management and project controls in reviewing project change requests and variance analysis; support project management with detailed cost estimates to obtain project authorizations through existing internal approval processes; and support the annual budget development and review process with timely and accurate cost estimates including updates to prior cost estimates.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of workgroup and departmental goals as appropriate. Identify and implement improvements in department operations and processes designed to enhance safety, control costs, remove waste, and improve productivity. Actively participate in local co-worker engagement, diversity, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Effectively utilize and provide technical support relating to the use of various energy delivery business systems. Provide computer hardware and system support, training, and application development for cost estimating tools and databases.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university is required. Preference is to have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination or have a Professional Engineer's license. Three or more years of electric utility distribution or related engineering experience is preferred. Engineering experience in a customer service division is preferred.

Technical career path level depends upon applicant's credentials.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Working knowledge of corporate computer applications (e.g. OAS, CSS, DOJM, ADMS, and/or EMPRV) and GIS. Excellent analytical, decision-making, communication, organizational, and human relations skills. Healthy customer service mindset and an ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders internal and external to the Company.

Compensation Range:

$69,300.00 - $168,000.00

* This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends upon applicant's credentials.

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
